From Fight For The Future:
In just four days, the FCC will vote on whether to kill net neutrality. That’s four days to save the free and open Internet.
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is already facing a huge public backlash to his proposal to let cable and phone companies create an Internet fast lane for big corporations. But to get a majority of FCC commissioners to vote against his proposal, we need to make them feel the heat big time.
So we’ve helped launch one of the most sustained and widespread protests for Internet freedom ever.
It started in Washington, D.C., where a courageous group of about 10-20 hard-core activists have set up camp in front of the FCC offices -- and are staying there day and night until the FCC drops their proposal to kill net neutrality. Then, to build momentum, we’re organizing similar encampments in front of FCC offices in 27 other cities and recruiting people to join in so that the crowds keep growing as the days pass.
This is bigger than anything the FCC ever expected -- and the media has really taken notice. But to pull off something like this costs money -- and we’re counting on folks who can’t just drop everything and camp out for days and days to chip in financially. Plus, with the vote less than a week away, there just isn’t much time. Can you make a donation today?
Yes, I’ll make a donation to save net neutrality.
People hate the idea of different websites being treated unequally -- and more the public learns about the FCC’s proposal to kill net neutrality, the less they like it. Our challenge is to take what would otherwise be an obscure bureaucratic procedure and put it front and center in the public debate.
Occupy Wall Street showed how a sustained protest like this can start small but quickly catch fire and really make noise. But to get it off the ground requires a lot of support, including money for things like sleeping bags, Wi-Fi hotspots, Clif Bars and massive amounts of coffee. That’s why your donation right now is critical.
Verizon and Time Warner have hundreds of millions of dollars and armies of Gucci-clad lobbyists on their side. But remember the great Internet blackout of 2012 to stop SOPA and PIPA? We proved that if enough of us speak out, we can win.
But with just 4 days before the FCC vote on whether to kill net neutrality, we all need to step up. Can you make a donation to help save the free and open Internet?
Yes, I’ll make a donation to stop the FCC from creating an Internet for the 1%.
Yours for the Internet,
Tiffiniy, Evan, Holmes and the whole Fight for the Future Team
