Trump signs executive order to prevent social media from censoring protected speech

President Trump, joined by United States Attorney General William Barr, signed an Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship | May 28, 2020

From The White House:

BREAKING: President Trump signs order to fight online censorship

Moments ago in the Oval Office, President Trump signed an Executive Order to fight online censorship by technology corporations, including social media platforms.

Tech bias is a major issue facing our democracy. It challenges the free exchange of ideas and public debate that protects our civil liberties. Every citizen—liberal, conservative, or otherwise—has a right to be heard and treated fairly online.

🎬 WATCH: President Trump announces executive action to fight online censorship

In the next few hours, you may hear a lot about this Executive Order. Leftwing media will claim it addresses a fake problem because tech bias doesn’t exist. Democrats in Congress will say the President is exceeding his authority. Some in the Beltway establishment will say the order doesn’t do that much in the first place.

All of these are lies. Here are a few of the key actions in President Trump’s order:
Makes it U.S. policy that platforms who selectively edit, censor, or are not acting in “good faith” with regards to content will not receive the liability protection included in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act

Directs the Commerce Department to petition the FCC to make clarifying rules on Section 230 in line with U.S. policy

Helps stop millions of taxpayer dollars from being wasted by federal agencies on advertising with biased social media platforms

Ensures the Justice Department will review more than 16,000 complaints about politically motivated censorship that were collected by the White House in advance of a Social Media Summit held last year

Mobilizes State Attorneys General—who have massive subpoena and consumer protection authorities—to ensure social media platforms are not engaging in unfair or deceptive acts or practices

Acts as federal law and lists the many ways in which tech platforms act with bias against viewpoints they disagree with

Massive corporations that treat millions of American citizens unfairly shouldn’t expect special privileges and protections under the law. With President Trump’s Executive Order today, our country is one step closer to having an honest, fair public debate.

Obama wants to ram TPP through Congress while you're not looking

From Fight For The Future:

I’m calling it. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the most corrupt trade deal in history.

Do you agree? Join me in calling out the TPP.

Politicians have gotten away with serving special interests in this massive trade deal for too long. But if we expose TPP for what it is, we can stop these kinds of deals and never let another corrupt trade deal like this happen again.

The TPP is so corrupt it’s a stretch to even call it a trade deal.

Only 5 of its 29 chapters deal with trade issues, things like tariffs and quotas. The rest is about delivering on the wish lists of multinational corporations.

Pharmaceutical monopolies would be protected.[1] Environmental protections would be slashed.[2] SOPA-like censorship would threaten free expression on the Internet.[3] Good-paying jobs would be sent overseas.[4]

And then there’s the international shadow court that would be set up to force TPP countries to pay multinational corporations when they pass laws or regulations that may limit corporate profits.[5]

This wouldn’t only screw over taxpayers, it would also hurt small and medium-sized companies by making it harder for them to compete with the multinationals that would get this special benefit.

We need to expose the corruption in the TPP or it will soon become law.

Just last week President Obama notified Congress that he would be sending them the final version of the TPP shortly.[6] And all reports indicate that he plans to do everything in his power to make sure it passes by then end of the year.

The White House and the lobbyists behind the TPP are desperate to get this finished before the public fully understands how dangerous and corrupt it is.

With everyone’s attention on the elections, they are working behind the scenes to set this up for quick passage. That’s why it’s so important that we get loud and call out the TPP for corruption now.

The TPP is the biggest trade deal ever. Its special-interest giveaways run more than 5,000 pages, and it would affect over 40% of the global economy. We need to sound the alarm right now before it’s too late…

Click here to fight to TPP, the most corrupt trade deal in history.

Thank you,

Corporate lobbyists want to rush TPP through Congress

xFrom Fight For The Future:

The biggest challenge we’re facing in the fight to stop the anti-democratic Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement is that too many people still don’t know what it is.

That’s a real problem. And corporate lobbyists from companies that hate the open Internet are hoping to exploit it to quietly rush the TPP through Congress this Fall.

Fortunately, we’ve got a secret weapon to help sound the alarm: the Rock Against the TPP roadshow.

We’re teaming up with legendary guitarist Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine, Prophets of Rage, and Audioslave) to organize Rock Against the TPP––a nationwide roadshow featuring high profile speakers and performers coming together to educate the public about the grave threat that the TPP poses to our most basic rights.

Through a series of large-scale educational concert events, protests, and teach-ins, we’ll reach huge numbers of people who have never heard of the TPP before, and ignite a mass movement to stop it in its tracks.

We just announced the tour to the public last week, and already we got amazing mainstream press coverage from Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, Billboard, and more! [1]

Are you down to Rock Against the TPP?

The TPP is a legally binding deal between 12 governments, including the U.S., that was negotiated in total secrecy with hundreds of corporate lobbyists helping draft the text. If ratified, it would be the largest backroom deal of its kind in history. The TPP contains extreme provisions that would expand global internet censorship, threaten our basic right to privacy, further criminalize whistleblowers, and make a mockery of the democratic process. [2]

But the good news is we have a very real chance of stopping it, if we mobilize right now.

The Rock Against the TPP tour is kicking off in Denver, CO on Saturday, July 23rd, with an all-star lineup including Golden Globe nominated actress Evangeline Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit, Ant-Man), popular punk band Anti-Flag, and Denver hip-hop legends the Flobots. Stay tuned as we announce more dates soon, and forward this email far and wide!

Thanks for all you do,

-Evan at Fight for the Future

P.S. All the info about the tour is here (go here to sign petition)

Demand transparency in the TPP debate

From Open Media:

You probably already know that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) threatens so much of what we hold dear -- this secret agreement will censor our Internet, send jobs overseas, undermine environmental regulations, and remove our most basic democratic rights.

For the last week, while U.S. President Obama has been in closed-door meetings in Asia desperately trying to finalize the TPP, a team of hardworking citizens has been projecting our hard-hitting “Stop the Secrecy!” message on key buildings around Washington D.C.

We know the more people who see these images, the more decision makers will feel the heat, so we’re working overtime to make sure the images go viral. Can you chip in to help support the hard-hitting social media campaign we’ll need to achieve this?

Our campaign to raise the public awareness around this agreement has already had an impact; the President failed to finalize the agreement during his trip, and he failed to secure needed “fast-track authority” from Congress.

We need to show decision makers that the public won’t accept the TPP without a full transparent debate; we know they are paying attention.

Please, chip in to help us run a hard-hitting social media campaign. For $10 dollars, we can tell 2700 people about the TPP; for $20 we can reach 5,500, and for $50 we can reach 11,250 people!

Once people realize what’s being decided behind their back without their consent, they’ll never stand for it. We can make the TPP impossible to pass by making sure as many people as possible are aware of it. Are you with us?

Thank you for being such an inspiration,

Steve, Jason on behalf of your OpenMedia team

P.S. Contributions in the next 24 hours will enable us to directly reach massive numbers online and tip the balance in our favour. Please stay with your OpenMedia team by chipping in with a human-sized donation right now.

Trouble in Turkey

From Fight For The Future:

Thousands have taken to the streets in Turkey to protest censorship, but they've been brutally suppressed. It's time for the Internet to show the Turkish people we have their back.

Turkey’s Internet is already heavily restricted -- at last estimate there are already over 40,000 websites being blocked including major video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo, blogging sites like WordPress, and a huge variety of other sites that have been critical of the government.1

An attack on the open Internet anywhere is an attack on the open Internet everywhere. We can’t sit idly by while any government so blatantly attacks Internet freedom.

Defeat the Internet Tax Mandate

From Campaign For Liberty:

Harry Reid and big-spending, high-tax statists in BOTH parties have already RAMMED the National Internet Tax Mandate through the Senate.

And without C4L members' continued action, it could be gaveled through the House and sent to Barack Obama’s desk for his guaranteed signature.

So it’s absolutely critical you sign the petition I've made up for you DEMANDING Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor KILL the National Internet Tax Mandate in the House.

I'll give you the link shortly, but first let me explain exactly why this is so important...

Currently, because of the Founders' vision for our country, states are "laboratories" - free to set their own tax policies.

High-tax, big-spending, highly regulatory state governments send businesses and citizens alike fleeing across state lines in search of more liberty.

But under the National Internet Tax Mandate scheme, the statists are setting the stage to bring it all to a crashing halt.

Under the National Internet Tax Mandate:

*** All Americans would pay more for the “privilege” of shopping online, as big-spending governors of BOTH parties work with the federal government to implement the Mandate.

Big-spending governors are running their states into bankruptcy, and - instead of reducing spending - they want Congress to force YOU to bail them out with Internet sales tax revenue!

*** Tax collectors in one state would now be free to pursue retailers across state lines.

For example, if a customer in New York makes a purchase from an online retailer in Texas, that retailer MUST collect New York's exorbitant sales taxes and send them to New York's tax collection agencies;

*** New and higher taxes would CRUSH economic growth and set the stage for massive new regulations that threaten the very existence of the Internet.

Make no mistake.

This is all bad enough on its face.

But it's hardly the end of it.

You and I both know, under the guise of "national security," establishment bureaucrats are already feverishly looking for new ways to trace, track, and register all Americans' online activity.

What you read. What you buy. What videos you watch. What you write about THEM.

Now the one-world socialists at the United Nations want in on the action, as well.

In fact, the U.N. has already drafted a new "Telecommunications Treaty" to impose restrictive regulations, global CENSORSHIP, and a massive new tax on all Internet operations.

If ratified by the United States Senate, the United Nations' Treaty could give control of the Internet to U.N. bureaucrats.

Ultimately, the U.N. hopes to use this scheme to take a tax bite out of the TRILLIONS of dollars exchanging hands via Internet commerce - money that will make the U.N. a true world government.

And this National Internet Tax Mandate is playing right into their hands.

That's why it's so critical you sign your No Internet Tax petition and make your most generous contribution of $100, $50, or $35 to C4L IMMEDIATELY.

Even if you can only chip in $20 or $10, it will make a tremendous difference.

Just like the Wall Street bailouts and the "deal" over the debt ceiling during the so-called "government shutdown," this National Internet Tax Mandate is "bipartisan" to its core.

And statists in BOTH parties are determined to RAM this scheme into law.

Governors from all over the country who literally CANNOT wait to get more tax money are busy bending the ears of Congress.

And with big spenders in BOTH parties lining up in support of increasing government control over the Internet, I’m afraid this legislation - or some sort of so-called "compromise" - could make it through the House unless you act today.

Will you stand by while the big taxers grab yet more tax dollars from hardworking Americans?

Do you simply shrug your shoulders at the thought of United Nations global socialists shutting down the free flow of information worldwide?

Or will you help me FIGHT BACK?

Please take a moment to sign your petition DEMANDING Bob Goodlatte, Eric Cantor, and John Boehner kill the National Internet Tax IMMEDIATELY.

And if you can, please make your most generous contribution to C4L TODAY.

Your generosity will help me alert hundreds of thousands of Americans to this critical fight and stop the National Internet Tax Mandate.

C4L will use mail, email, and hard-hitting Internet ads - and even newspaper, radio, and TV ads, if necessary.

And with the fight going on right now, this won't be cheap.

But it will be what it takes to win.

During the Senate fight over the National Internet Tax Mandate, Campaign for Liberty generated phone calls and thousands of petitions in opposition to taxing the Internet.

When the fight began, the statists thought they could ram their bill through the Senate with as many as 90 votes.

Capitol Hill insiders have told me and my staff that Campaign for Liberty's efforts were the key to changing the minds of many senators and making sure the bill passed in the Senate with far fewer votes than expected - greatly helping stall the bill's momentum.

If you and I can generate this type of massive pressure on the U.S. House, I'm confident we can DEFEAT the statists' attempt to get more of your money through the Internet.

So in addition to signing your petition, won't you please agree to your most generous contribution of $100, $50, or $35 IMMEDIATELY?

Even if all you can do is chip in $10 or $20 to this fight, please do so right away.

There's no time to waste.

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. Members of BOTH parties in Congress are working to unleash a new National Internet Tax Mandate.

If passed, the National Internet Tax Mandate would hand the federal government massive new controls over state tax policies, setting the stage for government at all levels to take another helping of your money via the Internet.

That's why it's critical you sign the petition DEMANDING House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, House Speaker John Boehner, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor kill the National Internet Tax Mandate. And please make your most generous contribution of $100, $50, or $35 to C4L IMMEDIATELY.

Even if all you can do is chip in $10 or $20 to this fight, please do so right away.

Help FFTF defeat TPP

Fight For The Future:

Urgent action today: Click here to help stop Fast Track for the TPP!

Last night in President Obama’s State of the Union address, he called on Congress to pass the “Fast Track” Trade Promotion Authority bill that would limit the ability of Congress and the public to meaningfully debate trade agreements like the extreme Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP).

Today is a huge day of action and we need everyone to participate. reddit, Imgur, and BoingBoing are running ads to help drive calls, and 80+ groups are mobilizing their members to speak out.

We can really melt phones today, people, if we go all out -- if you’ve ever wanted to take action, today is the day. If everyone reading this makes one phone call, this bill will be dead by tomorrow, just like with SOPA.

Click here to tell your representatives to vote NO on Fast Track for the TPP.

The TPP is a back-door way to secretly enact Internet regulations that benefit corporate interests instead of the public. Based on the leaked IP chapter from WikiLeaks, the TPP would ban phone unlocking (even though Obama says he supports it), force U.S. copyright policy on other countries without expanding protections for free speech, harshen penalties on whistleblowers, decrease access to medicines, and stifle innovation.

Sound bad? We can stop it, but we have to act today: http://StopFastTrack.com

Last night the White House parroted the rhetoric of the lobbyists who have been pushing for the TPP. The President went so far as to say that “Fast Track” authority would “protect our workers, [and] protect our environment.” Whether or not those are your issues, it’s hard to take the President’s claim seriously when nearly every labor and environmental organization in the U.S. vehemently opposes Fast Track for the TPP.

No one knows exactly what’s in the TPP (except government bureaucrats, lobbyists from the MPAA, and other such unsavory characters) -- although from leaked texts we know that, if ratified in its current form, it spells out the same kind of dark Internet future that we swore we’d never allow when we defeated SOPA and ACTA.

Today over 80 organizations are banding together to drive phone calls to DC to demand that our lawmakers vote NO on the Camp-Baucus Fast Track bill and give Congress time to debate and amend trade agreements that affect all of us.

This vote will be really, really close so every call counts. Will you add your voice? It only takes a minute.

Now that President Obama is doubling down on pressuring Congress to pass Fast Track, these next few days will be incredibly important. Get everyone you know to take action at http://StopFastTrack.com, and forward this email to your friends and family.

We are set up to win, but we can’t slow down now. We’re counting on you. Make the call.

For the Internet,

-Evan, Tiffiniy, Holmes and the FFTF team

P.S. We also need everyone to join our social media THUNDERCLAP too -- it’s the next piece of our esca lation plan to derail Fast Track and stop the TPP once and for all.

Fight corporate facism and internet censorship

From The Free Press Action Fund:

A couple of months ago we told you about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a hush-hush trade pact that threatens millions of Internet users’ rights to connect and communicate.

The TPP is on a fast track to getting U.S. approval without any public review or input. It would let corporations monitor our online activities, cut off our Internet access, delete content and impose fines.

The Internet is already under siege thanks to a federal court’s recent decision to gut the Net Neutrality protections. The Free Press Action Fund is fighting to win back the Internet on that front — and today we’re joining with our friends at OpenMedia to stop the TPP.

The TPP caters to corporate interests that don’t care about our digital rights. Consider the section on intellectual property, which allows the kinds of online speech restrictions that many of you protested when they appeared in the Stop Online Piracy Act.

Hollywood lobbyist Chris Dodd tried to ram SOPA through, and he’s using the same strong-arm tactics with the TPP. He offered the usual corporate spin following Tuesday’s State of the Union speech, claiming the TPP would “bolster investment, encourage economic development, and create jobs around the world.”

He forgot to mention how the TPP would restrict online speech, undermine our privacy rights and limit innovation.

We Stopped SOPA. Let’s Stop the TPP.

Former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk has admitted that if the public knew about the TPP, there’s no way it would pass.

Join our friends at OpenMedia and tell Congress and the White House to reject the TPP.

Thanks for all that you do,

Josh, Lindsy and the rest of the Free Press Action Fund team

Share your opinion on TPP

From Fight For The Future:

This is important -- and an awesome idea. Please see below an important message about the Trans-Pacific Partnership from our allies at OpenMedia.

Sincerely,

-Holmes Wilson

Fight for the Future

In a matter of weeks over 125,000 citizens from around the world have spoken out against the TPP’s Internet censorship plan. We now know that this remarkable global effort has gotten us the attention of decision-makers negotiating the TPP.

Heads of government from Malaysia, New Zealand, and others are now calling for greater transparency and public engagement in the TPP negotiations. [1][2][3] This is amazing, and would have never happened without your support.

Now that we have their attention, it’s time to let them know what we want. We need to create a citizen-led vision for copyright rules that serve creativity, innovation, and sharing, not control by Big Media. Be part of our crowdsourced visioning process today.

Earlier this year, we asked the Internet community what we should do to protect a free and open Internet. We heard loud and clear that it’s time to start crafting our own community-driven copyright rules -- and that’s exactly what we’ve done by creating a cool, easy-to-use drag and drop tool, drawn from your comments and suggestions during the Your Digital Future process.

To add to your voices, we consulted digital access experts, Internet innovators and entrepreneurs from several countries to identify the issues that will impact our ability to share and collaborate online.

What we want to create is a Trans-Pacific Partnership of our own – a partnership of citizens, creators and innovators looking to share and collaborate in the 21st century. But it needs your support to work.

We’ve seen crowd-sourced visions work before – once the citizen-centered alternative exists, it becomes impossible for decision-makers to claim their extreme proposals are serving regular people.

Help put the interests of a truly citizen-driven movement in decision-makers’ hands, and they won’t be able to ignore us.

Together, we are stronger – a crowdsourced vision is only as good as the crowd that participates. We need mass input from a wide range of Internet users to be able to truly propose a citizen-created plan. Be a part of this worldwide initiative -- add your voice now.

We can do this,

Your friends at OpenMedia

SOPA is back

From Fight For The Future:

Yesterday, WikiLeaks published a previously secret chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The document confirms our worst fears: the TPP would force extreme SOPA-like censorship onto the world’s Internet users.

Tell your leaders to say NO to Internet censorship and oppose the TPP

Now we know why the U.S. government worked so hard to keep the TPP negotiations secret: the Obama administration claims to champion Internet freedom and openness, but they’ve been quietly pushing for draconian copyright provisions that benefit Hollywood and giant pharmaceutical companies at the expense of our basic rights and freedoms.

We told the world once that SOPA was a deal breaker. But, now monopolists have found a backdoor to pass it -- the TPP. They’re doing everything in their power to make sure it gets signed. Our time to fight this is short, but there is still hope. Experts say that the TPP negotiations could still fall apart if we keep the pressure on.

The first thing we all need to do is speak out against censorship before it’s too late.

The TPP doesn’t just affect the Internet. It’s bad for the economy, jobs, the environment, food, and even access to medicine. The worst part is that it’s being debated behind closed doors, with no input from human rights advocates or technical experts, but plenty of influence from Industry lobbyists and government bureaucrats.

World leaders are meeting NEXT WEEK to continue negotiations on the TPP. Now that we know what’s in it, it’s clear we have no choice but to stop it completely. And we don’t have much time.

Click here sign the petition to stop the TPP

We spent yesterday combing through the WikiLeaks release, and we hate to say it, but the TPP is even worse than we thought. Here’s a glance of what it contains, read the full documents for yourself here:

* Shutting off our Internet connection and blocking entire websites over claims to copyright infringement -- check.

* Encouraging our ISPs to spy on everything we do on the web and sharing our private data with copyright holders - check.

* Accusing people of copyright infringement without due process -- check.

* Making medicine and medical care harder to get -- check.

* Circumventing protections for workers and the environment -- check.

* Undermining democracy and national sovereignty -- check.

Internet tax mandate vote coming up

From Campaign For Liberty:

The big spenders in Congress and state legislatures throughout the country are passionate about ramming through their National Internet Tax Mandate.

And their cheerleaders in the United Nations are now hoping it's only a matter of weeks until it becomes a reality.

With only a week left until the U.S. Senate goes back into session after the Easter recess, you and I must turn up the heat FAST!

Unless I can count on your action today, I'm afraid the big spenders just may get their way.

That's why it's critical you sign the Campaign for Liberty Directive I've made up for you URGING your representative and senators to vote "NO" on the statists' National Internet Tax Mandate.

If passed, the National Internet Tax Mandate would hand the federal government MASSIVE new controls over state tax policies, and set the stage for government at all levels - including the one-world socialists at the United Nations - to take another helping of your money via the Internet.

Worse, it's dangerously close to becoming reality . . .

Just hours before the Senate recessed in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 26, the statists took a "test vote" on a non-binding resolution hoping it would build momentum by showing overwhelming Senate support for their new National Internet Tax Mandate.

While the resolution passed by a significant margin, the big spenders fell far short of where they thought they'd be . . .

In fact, the statists now recognize their "test vote" proved the momentum could very well be with you and me!

I believe we can take advantage of this opportunity to KILL this monstrosity IF we turn up the heat on Congress FAST.

Our previous action already has the big spenders up in arms, and they're not going to wait around for you and me to build even greater numbers to defeat their scheme.

So you and I must do everything we can to make sure more and more Americans realize that under the new National Internet Tax Mandate:

*** All Americans would see their taxes go up, as big-spending governors of BOTH parties work with the federal government's IRS goons to implement a state sales tax on ALL goods purchased online.

Big-spending governors are running their states into bankruptcy, and - instead of reducing spending - they want the IRS to force YOU to bail them out with new Internet taxes!

*** Tax collectors in one state would now be free to pursue retailers across state lines.

For example, if a customer in New York makes a purchase from an online retailer in Texas, that retailer MUST collect New York's exorbitant sales taxes and send them to New York's tax collection agencies;

*** New and higher taxes would CRUSH economic growth and set the stage for massive new regulations that threaten the very existence of the Internet.

And all of this may not even be the worst of it . . .

You see, the United Nations wants in on the action, as well.

Just a few months ago, the U.N. drafted a new "Telecommunications Treaty" to impose restrictive regulations, global CENSORSHIP, and a massive new tax on all Internet operations.

If ratified by the United States Senate, the United Nations' "Telecommunications Treaty" - designed to take effect in 2015 - could give control of the Internet to U.N. bureaucrats.

Ultimately, the U.N. hopes to use this scheme to take a tax bite out of the TRILLIONS of dollars exchanging hands via Internet commerce - money that will make the U.N. a true world government.

And this National Internet Tax Mandate is playing right into the U.N.'s hands.

That's why it's critical you sign the Campaign for Liberty Directive I've made up for you URGING your representative and senators to vote "NO" on the statists' National Internet Tax Mandate.

And if you can, please agree to an IMMEDIATE contribution to help Campaign for Liberty turn up the heat.

As you'll see, these Directives put your elected officials on notice . . .

Americans simply will NOT tolerate a National Internet Tax Mandate.

My hope is to flood Congress with directives from folks like you by reaching up to 12 million Americans just in the next week before the Senate goes back into session!

But time is running out.

Please help us DEFEAT the National Internet Tax Mandate before it's too late.

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. The statists now recognize their "test vote" on the National Internet Tax Mandate proved the momentum could very well be with you and me!

But that has the big spenders up in arms, and they're not going to wait around for you and me to build even greater numbers to defeat their scheme.

That's why it's critical you sign the Campaign for Liberty Directive I've made up for you URGING your representative and senators to vote "NO" on the statists' National Internet Tax Mandate.

P.P.S. If your representative or senators are holding any local meetings, please attend and ask them where they stand on this critical issue.

In fact, you can plaster their events with this flier to help make sure more Americans understand the impact the National Internet Tax Mandate could have.

Deliever the knockout blow that will knockout SOPA

Imagine sitting down at your computer one morning to catch up on the latest at CampaignForLiberty.org and instead having this pop up on your screen:(see above)

After doing a little digging, you find out that Campaign for Liberty's web domain was seized by the government because a Federal Reserve official claimed content we had posted violated copyright - with no more than the accusation serving as cause and C4L receiving no chance to defend itself against the charge.

Hoping this is a temporary mistake - a fluke move by a bored bureaucrat that will soon be corrected - you head to another favorite site to get the latest on the freedom movement...

...only to have the same image assault your eyes.

And it doesn't stop there.

Time and again that morning you encounter the same notice - seeing it over and over as you try to access any alternative to the establishment echo chamber that claims to be "news."

In only the time it takes to stroke a few keys, the federal government has muzzled its opposition.

And they did it while you were sleeping.

Ray, this isn't an exaggeration or desperate fear mongering.

This is exactly what statists are working to make happen at this very minute.

But together, you and I can turn this Big Government-lover's dream into a nightmare for the political class.

We've done it before.

In just a moment, I'll show you how you can fight back.

But first let me provide a little background on the threat you and I are facing.

Last year, thanks to the quick action of C4L members and millions of other Americans, the "Stop Online Piracy Act" (SOPA) was thrown out the window right when it seemed to be fast-tracked to pass.

Proposed under the cloak of "protecting copyright," SOPA would have allowed the federal government to shut down websites for minor copyright violations or even a private allegation of a violation.

Without due process, entire websites could have been shuttered for inadvertent violations, malicious attacks, or a made-up claim.

To illustrate SOPA's potentially devastating impact, CampaignForLiberty.org and many other websites, including Wikipedia, "went dark" for 24 hours.

Activists rose up with such a backlash that legislators couldn't trample each other fast enough in a mad scramble to backpedal from the bill.

Many believed SOPA gone for good.

As it turns out, it was just on the ropes.

Now you and I must deliver the knockout blow.

In recent weeks, stories have surfaced reporting that pro-SOPA forces are gearing up to resurrect the legislation with a vengeance.

Some in Hollywood even believe President Obama's reelection gives him a mandate to pass bills like SOPA, and you better believe attacks on our freedoms from highly connected lobbyists will be well-funded.

So today, I'm asking you to take 30 seconds to exercise your right to free speech on the Internet by signing our "Hands Off the Internet" fax form to your representative and senators.

Our "Hands Off the Internet" statement clearly puts politicians on notice that if they thought the first backlash over SOPA was intense, they haven't seen anything yet.

The establishment uses pro-SOPA rhetoric to distract from the real agenda - shoving government's foot further in the door to rein in the area where our movement is growing the fastest.

The Internet is a refuge for liberty-minded Americans looking to get educated about the issues, equipped with the knowledge to be effective activists, and connected with other concerned citizens.

The web fuels pro-liberty efforts all across the globe.

And the elites can't stand it.

There's still time to act before SOPA's supporters gain momentum, so please sign our "Hands Off the Internet" fax form to your representative and senators right away.

Don't let the hypothetical situation from the beginning of this email turn into your cold, hard reality one future morning.

Take action today.

In Liberty,

Matt Hawes
Vice President of Programs

P.S. After its crushing defeat in 2012, many believed SOPA gone for good.

But recent reports indicate it is just on the ropes - waiting for us to deliver the knockout blow.

Help preserve Americans' freedoms online and safeguard the liberty message by signing our "Hands Off the Internet" fax form to your representative and senators today.
