From Campaign For Liberty:
As recently as a few years ago, the idea that a tax-and-regulatory scheme favored by powerful special interests and revenue-hungry governors would have any problem sailing through both houses of Congress was considered as absurd as the idea that Congress would ever take action to roll back the surveillance state or act on legislation to audit the Fed.
But today, what was once considered “unthinkable” is happening!
Just two weeks ago, Campaign for Liberty members helped force Harry Reid to delay voting on a scheme to add the National Internet Tax Mandate to legislation prohibiting Internet access taxes.
We are now hearing that Reid may delay considering the bill until September - or even until the “lame duck.” We are also getting indications that Reid may actually be considering passing a clean Internet access tax bill!
And earlier this summer, Representative Thomas Massie successfully attached an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill forbidding the National Security Agency (NSA) from using taxpayer dollars to spy on our Internet usage!
The same week Campaign for Liberty led the fight to foil the latest scheme to ram the National Internet Tax Mandate into law, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform passed Ron Paul’s Audit the Fed bill (H.R. 24)!
The full House is expected to vote on the bill in September, giving us the opportunity to force Harry Reid to finally allow a roll-call vote in the Senate.
These recent victories show that those who thought our liberty rEVOLUtion would go away after the 2012 election could not have been more wrong! Our movement is only growing in size and effectiveness.
And as long as C4L members like you remain active, we will continue to accomplish great things for liberty in the next few years.

Reminders to Congress

I'll admit. I was worried.
Just two weeks ago, it looked like we were about to suffer serious setbacks in our efforts to pass Audit the Fed and stop the National Internet Tax Mandate.
But then Campaign for Liberty supporters turned up the heat on the House and Senate. And thanks to your efforts, things have changed.
Not only did Campaign for Liberty supporters stop the National Internet Tax Mandate from being snuck into law this month, we've been told the U.S. House is going to vote on the Audit the Fed in early September.
Passing Audit the Fed through the House increases the pressure on Harry Reid and his Senate cronies to hold a roll call vote before Congress adjourns for the November elections.
That's great news. But we can't celebrate just yet.
Instead, it's time to turn up the heat.
If we are to succeed in getting Audit the Fed passed by the House and onto the Senate floor, and stopping the National Internet Tax Mandate, we need to make sure that Members of Congress hear from C4L activists like you over August recess to ensure House Leadership doesn't try to weasel out of any action on H.R. 24 or start pushing for new taxes.
That's why I've asked Campaign for Liberty Vice President of Policy Norman Singleton to prepare the below memo detailing our progress and outlining how Campaign for Liberty members can help keep the pressure on Congress over the August recess.
Norm and the C4L staff have also prepared a flier on Audit the Fed for you to download and distribute at town halls or other public events with your Senators and Representative.

Per John's request, I have prepared a brief outline on the progress we've made in our battle to pass Audit the Fed and stop the National Internet Tax Mandate in July, as well suggesting a plan of action for the August recess.
Audit the Fed (H.R. 24)
After a majority of the House of Representatives cosponsored Audit the Fed (H.R. 24) for the third Congress in a row, it appeared it would be easy to convince the House leadership, which was worried bout being “Cantored,” to schedule a vote on the bill.
But instead, three weeks ago the House Committee on Financial Services introduced a Federal Reserve “reform” bill they marketed as providing a “pathway to Audit the Fed.”
But sadly, they fell far short.
In fact, the move was little more than “window dressing” Members of Congress could use during this election season to claim they supported auditing the Fed while effectively protecting its secrecy.
The bad news for them is, it didn't work.
After Campaign for Liberty publicly opposed the bill as an inadequate substitute for the full audit bill, Campaign for Liberty supporters called Financial Services Committee members to let them know that half-measures wouldn't work.
Instead, our members insisted the Committee support legislation mandating a full audit of the fed, as required by H.R. 24.
After hearing from C4L grassroots activists, the Financial Services staff requested a meeting with C4L Director of Legislation Tim Shoemaker and myself, as well as staffers from H.R. 24's sponsor Representative Paul Broun's office.
At this meeting, the Committee staff assured us they were fully supportive of H.R. 24 and expressed a willingness to work with Campaign for Liberty to pass the bill.
Just days after the meeting, we received word that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform would markup the bill.
Once again, Campaign for Liberty supporters sent a strong message to Oversight and Government Reform Committee members to pass a “clean” bill.
The result was Audit the Fed passed out of committee by voice vote!
While we've heard the House will vote on the bill in early September, we must continue to keep the pressure on GOP House leadership to ensure they don't back down.
But if C4L supporters stay engaged, this will give us a good amount of time to turn up the heat on Harry Reid to bring Audit the Fed up for a floor vote up ahead of the November elections.
But that work must start now.
The good news is, Audit the Fed is not the only issue that we made progress on in last month.
National Internet Tax Mandate
Once again, Campaign for Liberty supporters foiled a scheme to ram the National Internet Tax Mandate into law.
Several weeks ago, the House passed legislation making the moratorium on Internet Access Taxes permanent.
This moratorium prevents governments from making getting online a taxable event. If the moratorium expires, citizens could be taxed from multiple jurisdictions every time they send an e-mail to someone in a different state or city.
Obviously, passing legislation either extending the moratorium or making it permanent is widely-supported, so the House bill should have sailed through the Senate with little difficulty.
But even before the bill passed the House, we heard that a bipartisan group of Senators, led by Big Government Republicans Lamar Alexander and Mike Enzi, were working to convince Harry Reid to attach the National Internet Tax Mandate to the Internet Access Tax Moratorium.
Senator Alexander even threatened to hold up the Internet Access Tax Moratorium unless Reid agreed to attach the National Internet Tax Mandate!
Senator Alexander, and his partners-in-crime, were hoping this maneuver could provide cover to wavering Senators by allowing them to claim that they “had to” vote to impose new taxes and regulation on Internet commerce in order to protect their constituents from having to pay taxes every time they went online.
We also heard that the House GOP leadership had quietly signed off on this scheme.
It seemed like a done deal. . .
But then Campaign for Liberty supporters once again weighed in with their Senators, forcing Reid to delay the scheme.
However, crony-capitalist big businesses and revenue-hungry governors will not give up trying to attach the National Internet Tax Mandate to the Internet Access Tax Moratorium.
They will likely try to get Reid to attach it when the Senate returns in September, and if they do not succeed, then they will make an attempt during the “lame duck.”
That is why it is important to keep the pressure on the National Internet Tax Mandate during the August recess.
August Recess: Turn up the Heat!
It is important to keep the heat on House members regarding Audit the Fed to make sure we get at least as strong a vote as we did in 2012.
It's also important to keep the heat on Senators to make sure they know that the people want them to stand with the nearly 75% of Americans who favor Audit the Fed, not Harry Reid and the Big Banksters.
Therefore, I suggest we ask our supporters to check to see if their representative will be holding town halls or making other public appearances and reminding them that the majority of their constituents want them to support Audit the Fed and oppose the National Internet Tax Mandate on EVERY vote.
Attached is a flyer our members can download and pass out at meetings, parades, townhalls, or any other public event with politicians present on Audit the Fed.

If possible, our supporters may also want to schedule personal meetings with their representative and senators to discuss Audit the Fed and the National Internet Tax Mandate.

But make no mistake. Nothing about this big-government boondoggle is "fair."
You see, the Internet Sales Tax would hand the Federal Government massive new controls over state tax policies and set the stage for government at all levels to tax, regulate and track every transaction you make on the Internet.
The Internet Sales Tax would also create an online regulatory nightmare that will wreak havoc on businesses by forcing them to comply with 50 separate tax codes.
That's why it's critical you sign the petition DEMANDING my colleagues in the House and Senate vote "NO" on the Internet Sales Tax.

Defeat the Internet Tax Mandate

Would you like to pay taxes to use services like Facebook, Google, iTunes, or Netflix?
How about paying even more taxes to help finance ObamaCare and other big-government boondoggles?
This could happen very soon, and it gets worse... much worse!
President Obama and the tax-and-spenders in Washington are gearing up to force through the Internet Tax Mandate.
Well, they aren't calling it that...
Those supporting this new tax hike and regulatory scheme are calling it the Marketplace Fairness Act in an attempt to hide its devious implications.
But make no mistake about it -- nothing about this big-government scheme is "fair."
The Internet Tax Mandate would allow states to force private companies to impose a sales tax on all online purchases.
This bill will create an online regulatory nightmare that will wreak havoc on small businesses to the benefit of large corporations and foreign competitors.
At a time when small businesses are already suffering under new regulations and higher taxes, the tax-and-spenders in Washington are gearing up to put them out of business altogether.
And to make matters worse, the politicians behind this scheme are plotting to sneak this through the House while you are enjoying your summer vacation.
Can I count on you to stand with us in the fight to keep the government from imposing a costly new tax scheme on the American people?
You see, instead of cutting spending to balance state budgets, the tax-and-spend politicians in both parties are looking to squeeze even more money from the American people.
And their plan is to force online retailers to moonlight as state tax collectors for all 50 states, regardless of whether or not they have a physical presence in the state.
This new type of sales tax bypasses current taxation restrictions and will open the door for even more taxation in the future.

Under the National Internet Tax Mandate:
*** All Americans would pay more for the “privilege” of shopping online, as big-spending governors of BOTH parties work with the federal government to implement the Mandate.
Big-spending governors are running their states into bankruptcy, and - instead of reducing spending - they want Congress to force YOU to bail them out with Internet sales tax revenue!
*** Tax collectors in one state would now be free to pursue retailers across state lines. For example, if a customer in New York makes a purchase from an online retailer in Texas, that retailer MUST collect New York’s exorbitant sales taxes and send them to New York’s tax collection agencies.

Sign the directive to defeat Obamacare and encroaching government

It could hardly be worse for President Obama.
The ObamaCare roll out has been a disaster. Something as simple and elementary as the healthcare.gov website is plagued with "glitches" making the system completely unworkable.
Millions of Americans are receiving notices that their health insurance is being cancelled or their premiums are skyrocketing.
The state of Delaware alone spent $4 million to enroll only four people in ObamaCare.
And ObamaCare expert "navigators" were recently caught on camera coaching people to lie on their applications.
But as bad as all this is, it means nothing if you and I don't fight back. So today I'm counting on your advice . . .

That’s why this March 31st has been circled on their calendars for weeks now.

Tell the House to defeat the Internet Tax Mandate

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Internet sales taxes, and what we heard was troubling, to say the least.
I submitted written testimony to the committee in opposition to what we call the National Internet Tax Mandate, but I’m afraid, without an immediate influx of grassroots pressure in opposition to this plan, representatives eager to compromise could help usher in the Mandate by next Cyber Monday.
While there are a few staunch allies of limited government and less taxes on the committee, many of the members are already dreaming about how their states will spend this tax revenue.
Of course, it won’t be long after the Mandate’s enacted until big-spending state legislators raise sales taxes to grab even more money out of our pockets.
One Republican even endorsed the Internet Sales Tax because he said it would make it easier to impose federal sales taxes on all Americans!

The triple threat in Congress
They're baaa-aaaack.
That feeling in the pit of your stomach you got this morning when you rolled out of bed wasn't just because it's Monday . . .
After a week of leaving us alone, Congress is back, and their docket is chock full of radical assaults on our liberties.
And I do mean FULL.

*** GUN CONTROL.
Ever since their first attempt at gun control flamed out in the U.S. Senate, the gun-grabbers have been doing everything they can to browbeat the handful of Republican and Democrat Senators they need into supporting President Obama's anti-gun assault.
But now, you and I are learning House Republican Leadership could take up the issue even before the Senate acts.
*** NATIONAL INTERNET TAX MANDATE.
If passed, the National Internet Tax Mandate would raise taxes on all Americans as a state sales tax on all goods purchased online would be implemented.
Tax collectors in one state would now be free to pursue retailers across state lines, so if customers in New York make purchases from an online retailer in Texas, that retailer must collect New York's exorbitant sales taxes and send them to New York's tax collection agencies.
Worse, after the bill overwhelmingly passed the Senate, I'm already getting word that some in the GOP leadership will be more than happy to help this Obama-backed bill sail into law.

Internet Tax Mandate goes to the House

Even though the National Internet Tax Mandate cleared the Senate yesterday by a vote of 69 to 27, this fight is far from over.
In many ways, it's just begun. You see, thanks to a massive outpouring of opposition from concerned Americans like you, the National Internet Tax Mandate didn't clear the Senate by as wide of a margin as the tax-and-spenders originally expected. That means you and I have a real shot at defeating this dangerous scheme in the U.S. House. So it's absolutely critical you sign the petition I've made up for you DEMANDING House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, House Speaker John Boehner, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor kill the National Internet Tax Mandate in the U.S. House.

As you recall, in a desperate attempt to RAM the Internet Tax Mandate through the Senate, Harry Reid circumvented the normal Committee process. So far, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte has promised to follow the normal Committee process - even hinting at his opposition to the National Internet Tax Mandate.
But Bob Goodlatte is under tremendous pressure from high-powered DC lobbyists, establishment insiders - and governors such as Virginia Republican "Tax Hike Bob" McDonnell - to RAM the National Internet Tax Mandate through Committee and on to the House floor, where it will surely be gaveled through to Barack Obama's desk.
Following the passage of the Internet Tax Mandate, Goodlatte indicated his committee would consider 'alternatives' that would do nothing more than pave a path toward Internet sales taxes. That's why you and I must create a grassroots firestorm of opposition to passage of the National Internet Tax Mandate in the House.
Unlike the Senate, EVERY member of the House must face the voters each election.

Congress is going to reconvene soon which means that If you haven't already acted upon the petitions now would be the time to do so so they know where you stand. A couple of things that are going to be brought up in Congress-both the House and Senate. The first one is the Internet Tax Mandate and a pledge to stand with Senator Rand Paul as he battles Senator Harry Reid and other statists. And all of this may not even be the worst of it . . .
You see, the United Nations wants in on the action, as well.
Just a few months ago, the U.N. drafted a new "Telecommunications Treaty" to impose restrictive regulations, global CENSORSHIP, and a massive new tax on all Internet operations.
If ratified by the United States Senate, the United Nations' "Telecommunications Treaty" - designed to take effect in 2015 - could give control of the Internet to U.N. bureaucrats.
Ultimately, the U.N. hopes to use this scheme to take a tax bite out of the TRILLIONS of dollars exchanging hands via Internet commerce - money that will make the U.N. a true world government.
