Put pressure on the House to hold an up and down vote on Audit The Fed

Eight years ago this month, thousands of pro-liberty Americans gathered in Minnesota for Campaign for Liberty's Rally for the Republic.

These Americans, many of whom were new to the Liberty Movement, traveled across the country to celebrate all that had been accomplished during Ron Paul's 2008 presidential campaign.

And more importantly, they began to plan the next stages of the Liberty r3VOLution.

Shortly after the rally, the housing bubble burst, the stock market crashed, and Wall Street -- aided in part by the Federal Reserve -- rushed to Congress demanding a bailout.

Congressional leadership, the administration, and the special interests all expected the bailout to pass Congress with little or no meaningful debate or dissent.

But then Campaign for Liberty mobilized pro-liberty Americans to flood Congress with phone calls opposing the bailout.

And what was supposed to be a slam dunk turned into one of the most continuous battles I witnessed in my years on Capitol Hill as Dr. Paul's legislative director.

Although the bailout ultimately passed, Campaign for Liberty showed the Congressional leadership and whole political class that the r3VOLution was not going away.

Not only that, public outrage over the Federal Reserve's responsibility for the maker meltdown and its role in the bank bailout led more Americans than ever to favor a full audit of the Federal Reserve.

So, shortly after the fight over the bailouts, Campaign for Liberty launched an effort to move Congress to respond to the growing anti-Fed sentiment by passing Ron Paul's Audit the Fed bill.

As a result of the efforts of Campaign for Liberty supporters like you, Audit the Fed twice passed the House by overwhelming (and increasing) majorities.

Today, this critical bill is just six votes away from breaking Harry Reid's filibuster, passing the Senate, and being signed into law!

The next step in our efforts is to have another House vote, thus sending the bill back to the Senate where we can force the Senate to vote right before going home to campaign.

Audit the Fed may be needed now more than ever.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen has recently stated that the Fed needs to start thinking "outside the box" about how to respond to the next financial crisis.

Among the "outside the box" ideas Yellen wants the Fed to consider are increasing the Fed's purchase of stocks, bonds, and other private assets and "modifying" the Fed's inflation targets.

In other words, increase the Fed's power over the economy by bailing out big banks, large financial firms, and other large corporations, while eroding your standard of living via inflation.

The American people deserve to know the full truth about how the Fed evaluates the economy and what plans it is making when the next crash comes.

Including any and all "arrangements" the Fed has made with foreign central banks, as well as plans to purchase stock in private companies, bail out the big banks, and ramp up the printing presses.

If we can force the House leadership to hold a vote on, and pass, Audit the Fed within the next several weeks, we can then force the Senate to hold a vote right before going home to campaign.

This will present fence-sitting Senators with a tough choice...

... Either stand with the nearly 75% of Americans who support Audit the Fed...

Obama administration declares war on its enemies

With the months ticking away in President Obama's final term in the Oval Office, the battle cry emerging from the White House right now is "DESTROY YOUR ENEMIES!"

Using every means at their disposal, the Obama administration is preparing to unleash a torrent of Big Government schemes.

Whether it's Campaign for Liberty's ongoing fight with the IRS, the fight over the U.S. Supreme Court -- or the rapidly approaching November elections -- the stakes couldn't be higher for our liberty movement.

But after a mid-year review of Campaign for Liberty's financial situation, I'm afraid I'm facing an enormous problem.

We can't put up much of a fight for the remainder of 2016.

Not without a serious and IMMEDIATE influx of funds. And even then, I am afraid serious choices must be made. But this is OUR Campaign for Liberty, not only mine.

That's why I've written a special Mid-Year Member Ballot for your review.

As Campaign for Liberty President Norm Singleton and I sketch out our final plans for the rest of 2016, I need you to please tell us where to focus.

But I have only until July 1st to make a final decision. So please act right away!

One of my very top concerns right now is the Supreme Court vacancy left with the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia.

While Justice Scalia sometimes failed the liberty movement on issues like privacy, he was an ally on many other core constitutional issues.

Not only that, but he stood as a bulwark against those who would use federal courts to reshape American society.

Now, with his passing, the statists can hardly contain their glee.

Should President Obama succeed in confirming his nominee, Merrick Garland, there could be no saving our remaining constitutional liberties:

*** The Fourth Amendment will be further eroded as government agents stick their nose into more aspects of your "private" life;

*** The Second Amendment could be "interpreted" out of existence;

*** First Amendment protections -- like those that ensure Campaign for Liberty can boldly speak out against BOTH parties' radical Big Government schemes -- could be all but DESTROYED;

*** New EPA regulations, handing government vast new tax and regulatory controls over individual citizens' private property, would be rubber-stamped.

In fact, the left-wing website Daily Kos brags, "We'd affect the fundamental direction of the Court not for a year or two but possibly for a generation."

So if you think STOPPING confirmation of any Justice who would tip the scales in the statists' favor should be Campaign for Liberty's top priority, please mark "OPTION #1: STOP PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SUPREME COURT TAKEOVER!" on your Mid-Year Member Ballot.

The second fight we are prioritizing this year is our ongoing fight with the IRS.

For more than two years now, I've fought the IRS's demands for the names, addresses, and other confidential personal information on select Campaign for Liberty contributors.

With the help of good folks like you, I've stood up to their attempts to cripple Campaign for Liberty with everything from legal threats to $10,000-a-day fines.

I did so for an important reason. They're UNCONSTITUTIONAL and they are flat-out wrong.

Forcing organizations like Campaign for Liberty to publicize donor information would have an incredibly chilling effect on political free speech.

Many liberty-loving Americans would silence themselves for fear of becoming targets of political retribution.

So when Campaign for Liberty's accountants and senior staff prepared our annual financial statements for submission to the IRS as required by law, I instructed our staff to REFUSE to comply with these unconstitutional IRS demands and leave off any identifying donor information.

As a 501(c)(4) organization, Campaign for Liberty contributor information is supposed to be confidential.

Now, after coming so close to passing Audit the Fed in the U.S. Senate -- and with our continued efforts to INCREASE Senate pressure by passing the bill through the House -- the situation with the IRS is getting more serious by the day.

Their goal is to wipe our liberty movement off the map as a political force this election year by draining us with expensive fines and sky-high court costs.

But not fighting back could allow President Obama's goons to go on a rampage against anyone they've identified as a political enemy.

So if you think standing up to the IRS's demands should be our number-one priority, please mark "OPTION #2: FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE IRS."

Our third big priority is, of course, Audit the Fed.

Corporate welfare makes guys like Donald Trump ever richer

This fall marks the seventh anniversary of the bursting of the housing bubble and the subsequent economic meltdown. The mood in Congress following the meltdown resembled the panicked atmosphere that followed the September 11th attacks. As was the case after September 11th, Congress rushed to pass hastily written legislation that, instead of dealing with the real causes of the crisis, simply gave the government more power.

Just as few understood the role our interventionist foreign policy played in the September 11th attacks, few in Congress understood that the 2008 meltdown was caused by the Federal Reserve and Congress, not by unregulated capitalism. Not surprising to anyone familiar with economic history, the story of the 2008 meltdown starts with the bursting of the Fed-created tech bubble.

Following the collapse of the tech bubble, the Fed began aggressively pumping money into the economy. This money flooded into the housing market, creating the housing bubble. The Bush Administration and the Republican Congress also added fuel to the housing bubble. These so-called “free-market” conservatives expanded federal housing programs in hopes of creating an “ownership society.”

If Congress understood the Austrian theory of the business cycle, it would have allowed the recession that followed the housing bubble’s inevitable collapse to run its course. Recessions are the economy’s way of eliminating the distortions caused by the Federal Reserve. Attempts by Congress and the Fed to end a recession via inflation and government spending will only lead to future, and more severe, economic downturns.

The corporate bailouts, government spending, and money creation via quantitative easing that Congress and the Fed have engaged in since the fall of 2008, have failed to produce even the illusion of prosperity. The daily experience of most Americans shows that the government’s doctored statistics drastically understate both unemployment and inflation.

This is not to say that no Americans have benefited from Federal Reserve policies. Even Donald Trump has called quantitative easing “a great deal for guys like me.” Much of the growth of government over the past seven years, from the bailouts to the increases in military and domestic spending to Obamacare, has also benefited politically-connected crony capitalists.

The Federal Reserve’s continued delay of an interest rate increase suggests that, contrary to its public statements, the Fed understands that the economy has not recovered from the meltdown and is on the brink of another major recession. Fear that the Fed is not being fully forthcoming with its view of the economy is one reason the stock market declined following the Fed’s recent decision to once again postpone increasing interest rates.

Learning the full truth about how the Fed evaluates the economy and its plans to respond to another downturn are two reasons why it is important to pass the Audit the Fed bill.

A vote on Audit the Fed would probably be the only good thing to occur in Congress this year. A Congress that cannot defund Planned Parenthood is unlikely to make any serious cuts in spending. Instead of waiting for politicians to do the right thing, those who know the truth must spread the ideas of liberty as far and wide as possible. Only when the teachings of the Austrian school are embraced by a critical mass of Americans will Congress cut warfare spending, cut welfare spending, and audit, and then end, the Fed.
