Senator McConnell has yet to fulfill his promise, most likely because he did not want to force vulnerable Republican Senators to choose between the people and the special interests before the election.

But in the lame-duck, he will think he is safe to move this bill since the people are burned out on politics and too busy with the holidays to pay attention to Congress.

So we must let Senator McConnell and his colleagues know that we are not going to back down -- instead, we will keep the heat on the Senate through the lame-duck!

But the Senate is not our only, or even our main, threat.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has recently endorsed the version of the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate that has been proposed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert Goodlatte.

Ryan and Goodlatte claim their plan is "fair" to small businesses, even though -- unlike the Senate plan -- this bill does not include a small business exemption from the mandate.

And even if the Ryan-Goodlate plan is fair for business, it's not fair for consumers!

Like every other version of the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate, the Ryan-Goodlate plan raises prices on your online purchases.

But unlike other versions, the Ryan-Goodlatte plan doesn't even exempt small businesses from the mandate!

The Ryan-Goodlatte plan also imposes a complex and costly tax collection scheme on online commerce.

Proponents of the Ryan-Goodlate plan claim that these costs will be borne by state governments.

But you and I know that state-level bureaucrats and politicians will find a way to make sure the costs are "passed along" to consumers and taxpayers.

The Ryan-Goodlatte plan rewards tax-hungry governors and state legislators by giving them a fresh source of revenue, allowing them to continue their fiscally irresponsible ways.

This will only make the inevitable day of reckoning all the more painful.

Now, Capitol Hill sources have told me that Goodlatte is working with House supporters of the Senate version of the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate to find a "compromise" version of the legislation.

And you know that President Obama will be doing all he can to help broker such a compromise.

He would love to add "signed the National Internet Sales Tax Law" to his list of "accomplishments."

The good news is, Paul Ryan has not made any public pledges to vote on the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate.

If he knows that we will not accept any phony "compromise" that burdens the Internet with taxes and regulations, he will likely back down on his plan.

So please sign your "No Lame-Duck Internet Sales Tax" petition to your Representative and Senators asking them to publicly pledge to oppose any version of the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate in the lame-duck session.

Unexpected twist in Senate move to ignore Scalia nominee

Washington — After a year of relative cooperation in the Senate, severe partisanship has come roaring back over a United States Supreme Court nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Tuesday’s unanimous recommendation by Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee not to hold a hearing for a potential replacement, and to delay action until the next president, set Democrats on a tear.

They called the move historic, saying it was an example of the far right’s influence, and said it endangered the very system of government set up by the Founding Fathers. Refusing to even meet with a nominee will backfire on Republicans at the ballot box, they predicted.

But the dire warnings also came with a surprise: Neither side expects the political chasm over the issue to significantly affect legislative business for the rest of the year. Bills to overhaul prison sentencing, combat heroin abuse, and reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration still have a chance of passage, as does a patent bill.

That’s partly because Democrats have announced they will not engage in reprisal obstruction.

“I’m not going to turn into the destruct caucus,” Senate minority leader Harry Reid (D) of Nevada told reporters on Tuesday. “We will do our work,” he said, in answer to a question about whether Democrats would block the spending process to force the Republicans’ hand on a nominee.

“I don’t think [the nomination issue] should affect anything else in the Senate at all,” said Senate Republican conference chairman John Thune (R) of South Dakota. “There’s a lot of interest on both sides in moving bills that we know we have to get done.” The nomination fight “is a separate issue,” he told reporters Tuesday.

The proof of those statements remains to be seen, of course. But there’s another reason that some lawmakers think the nomination debate will not bring Congress to a halt. As Senator Reid acknowledged, there’s no point in Democrats shutting the Senate down procedurally because “there’s nothing to shut down.”

This is a presidential election year and precious little is achieved in such years. Beyond that, some of the few bills in the hopper involve Republican-on-Republican disputes.

For instance, both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees approved bipartisan bills to reduce mandatory minimum sentences for small-time drug offenders last year – but an intraparty disagreement over the need to prove criminal intent is preventing them from advancing to the floor. Conservatives including presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R) of Texas also say the bill is too soft on crime.

Still, not all Democrats believe the nomination tornado will cut a narrow path. It could “make it difficult for ordinary business,” said Senate minority whip Dick Durbin (D) of Illinois. He called it a “historic moment” as Democrats said that never before has a Supreme Court nominee been denied a hearing or a vote on the Senate Judiciary Committee – the only exception being nominees that went directly to confirmation.

Democrats may not have a procedural strategy to force the Republicans’ hand on this, but “we’re not going to let this go away,” Senator Durbin said. The nominee will be sent up by the White House, and he or she will meet with Senate Democrats. “We’ll be discussing that nominee, and we’ll be reminding the American people that the Republicans in the Senate refuse to do their job.”

A majority of Americans want the president to nominate a Supreme Court justice, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll – though the view is largely split along party lines.

Most Republican senators seem unconcerned that their move could cost them in November – though Sen. Mark Kirk (R) of Illinois, the most endangered of the Republican incumbents, has said that he would be willing to vote on a nominee.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R) of Kentucky, however, said Tuesday that he agreed with the Judiciary Committee's recommendation. “In short, there will not be action taken,” Senator McConnell told reporters. The majority leader also said he would not meet with a nominee.

The reasoning is that a Supreme Court appointment should not be made amid a presidential election.

“A lame-duck president should not be making a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court,” Senator Thune said. Democrats would argue the same if the situation were reversed, Republicans say.

When asked whether Republicans were concerned about political pressure, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) of Utah said, "I'm not concerned about that.”

As to Democratic charges of obstruction, he said simply, “it’s not obstruction. This is saying that this is so important that it should not be brought up in this messy time, and it ought to be brought up for the next president, whoever that may be.”

Wah Wah. Old Harry Reid didn't mind playing cover for Obama. He didn't mind keeping job creating bills from getting to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Gays don't deserve special rights

Those are the words pro-Homosexual "Out" magazine used to describe President Obama on their cover photo of him.

The anti-Family magazine named him their "Ally of the Year" after he became the first sitting president to endorse homosexual "marriage".

Obama took a victory lap in his interview taking credit for every pro-homosexual "achievement" from repealing "don't ask, don't tell" to nominating the first openly gay military branch leader.

The homosexual magazine thanked him for nominating the Homosexual Lobby's two picks for U.S. Supreme Court justices during his tenure.

Theirs were the deciding votes to strike down state laws defending Real Marriage earlier this spring.

Obama didn't waste any more time celebrating past achievements with the magazine.

Shortly after his pro-Homosexual glamour shoot and interview, he called on Congress to immediately pass the Gay Bill of Special Rights.

And the radical Homosexual Lobby wasted no time in pressuring Congressmen to pass the dangerous Gay Bill of Special Rights.

Passage of this bill would virtually destroy Religious Liberty.

I'm worried.

Obama is about to enter the final year of his presidency.

End union violence

From The National Right To Work Committee:

Armed with phony protest signs attached to baseball bats along with other "concealed" makeshift weapons, more than 500 International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) militants stormed the port in Longview, Washington.

Slashing tires, breaking windows, cutting the brake lines of fully loaded railway cars, dumping shipments of grain into the dirt, the ILWU mob slowly made their way to a group of six port security guards determined to stop their march.

Outnumbered, the guards were quickly forced to retreat into their guard shack where they were held hostage until the police were finally able to restore order.

If any other common criminals were to destroy property and hold people hostage, they would be put behind bars where they belong.

Yet, not one of these union thugs was arrested!

But the shocking thing is: Stories like this one, even though they don’t make national news, are repeated again and again.

In the Longview case, at least no one was shot.

Unfortunately, John King, the owner of a mid-size Toledo electrical contracting business, wasn’t so lucky when he was shot by a union thug in the dead of night.

You see, Mr. King’s business had been a regular target for a union boss takeover by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

They nearly succeeded, that is until the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the IBEW’s certification after it was shown that the union bosses lied to King’s employees, promising them electrician jobs on union sites if they voted the union into his company.

At that point, the IBEW’s "corporate campaign" of harassment, vandalism and death threats returned with a vengeance.

King, along with his employees, was the regular target of union militants who would routinely slash the tires of their cars and throw rocks through the company’s windows.

As King put it: "It was nothing to have to regularly buy a new set of tires . . . the ice pick was the weapon of choice."

Then things turned uglier when the IBEW militants turned their attention not to King’s company, but this time to his home.

Late one night while getting ready for bed, King noticed the motion lights turn on in his driveway.

When he went out to investigate, he was confronted by a union thug who had just finished spray painting the word "SCAB" across King’s SUV and was set to puncture his tires.

When King yelled, the man didn’t say a word. Instead he stood up, and without hesitation pulled out a gun and shot King.

Fortunately, Mr. King lived. Others have not been so lucky.

That’s why I hope you will join our effort to make sure union bosses are held accountable for the acts of violence they commit.

But to do this, your help is crucial.

The fact is, union violence reflects Big Labor’s coercive approach to organizing. Instead of relying on persuasion, union officials have routinely resorted to threats and compulsion to add to their dues-paying ranks.

USA Freedom Act is going to take away your freedoms

In a major capitulation, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has given up trying to extend the Patriot Act. Instead, he has agreed to bring the USA Freedom Act to the floor of the Senate, which he had previously refused to do.

The USA Freedom Act is a flawed bill, but it is better than the Patriot Act, as it contains some reforms to the NSA's mass surveillance programs.

But McConnell has a new plan. At 2:00 PM eastern TODAY the U.S. Senate will vote on a series of amendments designed to further weaken the USA Freedom Act by undercutting many of its reforms.

That includes extending the program of mass surveillance on every American citizen for another year, keeping important court decisions secret, and weakening a requirement that the court consult with a group of experts to discuss privacy problems in any of the court's orders.

Arizona defies the Federal Government

It’s a scary thought, but here it is: If some red states were to openly defy the authority of President Obama in the exercise of his constitutional duties, would today’s Republican Congress side with him? Or would they honor the insurrection?

I wish it could be said with confidence that the legislative branch would oppose a rebellion against the executive branch of government. But I’m not so sure.

Last month, the Republican-led Arizona House of Representatives passed, on a 36-to-24 party-line vote, a bill sponsored by tea party Rep. Bob Thorpe (R-Flagstaff) that “prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with an executive order issued by the President of the U.S. that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.”

If adopted by the Arizona Senate and signed into law, executive orders issued by the president would have no force or effect in that state. What’s more, the Arizona House has passed a number of other bills aimed at nullifying policies, rules and regulations of the Obama administration that have not been approved by Congress.

The word “insurrection” does come to mind. Yet the resistance out West to federal authority has been received in virtual silence on Capitol Hill. It’s almost as if the GOP Congress wanted an uprising against the president.

This country has drifted far beyond the rough-and-tumble give-and-take that historically occurs between the parties. It’s one thing to oppose the president’s policies. It’s quite another to refuse to acknowledge presidential authority.

That’s what we are witnessing in the Arizona House. That’s what we also saw with the 47 Republican senators who wrote to the Iranian government, warning that Obama is seeking a nuclear agreement that won’t last beyond his administration.

Sabotaging Obama shows up in other ways.

This week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told countries involved in negotiating a U.N.-brokered international climate change agreement that they should “proceed with caution” because of intransigent opposition to Obama’s efforts to significantly scale back U.S. carbon ­emissions.

McConnell also seeks to undermine presidential authority here at home. In a March 3 op-ed in the Lexington Herald-Leader, McConnell told states to ignore the Environmental Protection Agency’s mandate for clean power regulations. “Think twice before submitting a state plan,” McConnell implored the states. “Hold back.”

The Arizona insurrection, the GOP senators’ attempt to undermine negotiations over a nuclear agreement, the Senate leader’s effort to rupture international climate change negotiations and his call for open defiance of federal regulations are all aimed at marginalizing Obama by rendering him powerless.

Sometimes, in their zeal, the Republicans get out of control.

Recall the March 2012 edition of the newsletter of the Republican Party of Greene County, Va., which called for an “armed revolution” if Obama won reelection that November?

There was, of course, some after-the-fact tut-tutting by Virginia GOP leaders who weren’t about to take up arms. The county’s GOP leadership, which cut loose the writer, Ponch McPhee, announced boldly, “We do not believe that if the results end up with the re-election of Barack Obama, that will necessitate what the author suggests.” Not quite a stinging denunciation, but these days the president’s supporters must take what they can get. But they, the president and the Constitution deserve more.

American history teaches that we are on a dangerous path. And history has a way of repeating itself. A little more than 150 years ago, this country experienced another bombastic phase. Hatred of a president and his government’s policies produced a bloody schism that eventually led to an accord grounded in hope but which papered over a disharmony still lingering today.

Then, as now, there was a president, Abraham Lincoln, accused by those who detested him of misusing presidential power, subverting the Constitution and trampling over states’ rights. Then, as now, that president was characterized as a ruthless tyrant bent upon destroying a superior civilization.

Then, as now, that president was portrayed as a simpleton, a buffoon and a coward.

Wisconsin newspaper editor Marcus M. Pomeroy wrote as the election of 1864 approached: “The man who votes for Lincoln now is a traitor and murderer. . . . And if he is elected to misgovern for another four years, we trust some bold hand will pierce his heart with dagger point for the public good.”
