Happy birthday, America and a word from the losers

Yesterday was July Fourth. America's birthday. A revolution we had a won. We achieved independence from a very powerful global empire that was oppressing us. We cheered in the streets while we said:

Of course, there are two sides to every story. What is the British viewpoint of the American Revolution? I was reading this article on George Takei's website. Yes, Mr. Sulu George Takei. There is a lot of silence in Great Britain concerning this subject. However, there are Brits that did speak up about it. Some I found interesting and I wanted to respond to them.

To Americans the War of Independence was obviously a huge conflict that lead to the founding of a nation. To British - we have so much other military history (mainly Roman invasion, Norman conquest, 100 year war, War of the Roses, Spanish Armada, English Civil War, Battle of Trafalgar/Waterloo, WW1, WW2 to name a few) that it barely gets a mention.

To Britons, We have a rich military history too. The War of 1812-USA versus Great Britain, American Civil War, WW1.WW2-to save Britain's ass,Vietnam-Americans discuss Vietnam and we move beyond it. Too bad you cannot do the same. There is also the Korean War, The Persian Gulf War, The Iraqi War, The Spanish American War and a possible second Civil War.

We also cover non-military history (e.g. Kings/Queens of England, life during medieval period, Henry VIII founding the Church of England, Slavery, British Empire, Industrial Revolution) and learn a little about Ancient History (Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Celts)

We discuss Presidents: past, present and future. We also discuss members of Congress and the Senate. We've read about your lives in medieval times. The Founding Fathers drafting the Declaration Of Independence and Constitution. Slavery too. American sovereignty and sustainability. Yes on the Industrial Revolution and ancient history too.

There's a lot to squeeze in that is arguably more relevant to UK's development as a nation so we don't really cover it.

Not to mention it is a bigtime embarrassment.

Happy Birthday,America

From Rand2016:

Today, we celebrate our Declaration of Independence.

This document and the sentiment that inspired it were milestones in our history. Our Founding Fathers stood for life and liberty, all while risking theirs.

If, as Reagan said, "Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction," will ours be the one to allow the flame to be extinguished?

I don't believe so. I believe we are prepared to stand and fight to preserve our nation, our rights and our liberty.

On this day, I am thankful for being given the opportunity to play a role in this cause. And I am grateful for the support you have given to me.

Today, many will be with their families, go to parades, cook-out, and celebrate our Independence. I will be one of those enjoying this day.

John Adams spoke of our Independence and declared that it "ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.

It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."

Today, there will be fireworks and music, and perhaps there will be speeches that remind us of the origins of the day, and our freedoms.

We should take time to reflect on what that means to us. To me it means the freedom to live in the manner prescribed and protected in our founding documents.

It means standing up for free speech, even when you disagree with the speech.

It means standing up for the 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments, even when it might seem more expeditious not to.

It means removing the obstacles to freedom that are sometimes placed in the path of the individual, the worker, or the job creator.

For these rights, this liberty is what defines us and allows us to prosper. As Emerson said, "For what avail the plough or sail, or land or life, if freedom fails."

Enjoy the 4th. Celebrate with family and friends. And pledge to continue the fight for freedom, so you and I can say we preserved it here for another generation.

In Liberty,

Rand Paul

Happy Birthday America

It was on this day in 1776 that several brave men put their lives on the line by signing the Declaration of Independence a document if found by the British meant they would be found guilty of treason against the king and have a date with the executioner. Britain at that time was a world superpower with colonies all over the world making it a vast and powerful empire yet our Founding Fathers had enough of a tyrannical king that pushed them around and had the bravery to stand up to the tyrannical king. This tyrannical king certainly didn't expect farmers and other civilians to prevail over his professional army but that is what happened. With help from our French allies we were able to prevail against the British king and form our own country,a country that is the breadbasket of the world. A shining beacon of light. Back then the British were frustrated by the fact they couldn't get their hands on the signatories and they also terrorized innocent colonists trying to get the information. British atrocities were numerous with their dragnet searches of homes and other dwellings of the colonists and the torching of said dwellings. But in the end it was the British atrocities that help solidify the colonists desire for independenance. An independenance they achieved. I'm going to conclude this post with the following:
