Big cable is suing the FCC over Title II Net Neutrality

BREAKING NEWS: The telecommunications industry just sued the FCC to kill Net Neutrality.1

Just weeks ago, the FCC issued a historic decision preserving Net Neutrality. But two new lawsuits filed by the big cable and Internet Service Providers are trying to overturn the whole thing.

With the amount of money corporations like Verizon and AT&T can spend on lawyers, this is going to be a huge fight. And to win, we need to make sure the public is making our voices heard in support of the FCC.

They've given millions to politicians. They've spent millions more on lobbyists. And now they've hired an army of lawyers to accomplish what they haven't been able to do so far: kill Net Neutrality.

Why are they fighting this so hard? Because they want to give preferential treatment to big corporations and dump the rest of us into an Internet slow lane—all so they can jack up their already sky-high profits.

The scary thing is that they've had success blocking Net Neutrality in the courts before. Previous efforts by the FCC to protect Net Neutrality have been blocked by the cable industry's lawyers.

So it's not enough to let government lawyers fight this on their own. We need to make sure the public is speaking out too.

One more push for Title II Net Neutrality

The first thing I read this morning gave me chills.

The New York Times ran a front page story about how enemies of net neutrality are on the retreat, and that tomorrow, we could see the biggest open Internet victory of our lives. [1]

Bottom line: together, we are on the cusp of an absolutely unbelievably epic victory for net neutrality. Do you want to savor it? Watch this video we made!

We whipped up this fun little video to mark the “final” moments of the Internet Countdown, and to look back on how we got here, together. It’s so mind blowing to think how all these online protests, real life camp-outs, calls, emails and epic stunts snowballed into what could be the biggest win of our lives. It could be even bigger than defeating SOPA. [2][3]

Keep an eye on the news tomorrow, and remember: activism works. When tons of people come together with a clear vision, nothing’s impossible. Really! Getting to where we are right now was supposed to be impossible!!

Demand Title II Net Neutrality

With the FCC so close to finally passing real Net Neutrality rules, things are getting ugly in Congress. Last week we told you that Sen. John Thune and Rep. Fred Upton are pushing fake Net Neutrality legislation — dubbed, nefariously enough, "Title X" — at the behest of Comcast and the other big ISPs.

Will you call your lawmakers to tell them to oppose it? It'll just take a couple of minutes, and will help save the Internet.

It's easy to see what's going on here: Nearly every last person and organization that's backing this proposal has historically OPPOSED Net Neutrality, and now they're trying to gut the FCC's authority to implement meaningful rules.

As the key committees held hearings last week you bombarded the members' offices with tens of thousands of calls -- and that seems to have brushed back potential supporters from signing on.

But it's not a done deal yet, and we need to shut this thing down before it moves an inch.

While the Thune-Upton bill is disguised as Net Neutrality legislation, it would actually just protect the phone and cable broadband duopoly from oversight. It legalizes a lot of harmful discriminatory practices by preventing the FCC from moving on its own to adopt and enforce rules.

We need to keep ensuring that this proposed legislation is exposed for what it is: a cynical cable-lobby effort to prevent the FCC keeping the Internet open and nondiscriminatory.
