The National Internet Sales Tax Mandate is backed by some of the most powerful special interests in the country, making Campaign for Liberty's success is all the more remarkable.
And Campaign for Liberty was the only organization to mobilize opposition against this tax.
On Friday, I heard from a Congressional staffer whose boss shares our opposition to the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate:
"Campaign for Liberty has been crucial in the battle to stop the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate. Please make sure your members know how crucial their efforts were in stopping this new tax!"
Even in the face of behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing, Campaign for Liberty managed to prevent the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate from even hitting the House or Senate floors!
But none of this would have been possible without the support of Liberty-minded individuals like you.
This is an enormous victory for Liberty, and one that sends a message to Big Government cronies trying to sneak legislation through back channels.
While this is certainly a cause for celebration, it's equally important we don't let our guard down.
There will always be Big Government shills trying to make their fortunes by restricting our liberties, and while we may have sent them packing this time...
...They are still skulking in the shadows, waiting for the next opportunity to chip away at our Constitutional rights and line their pockets.
That's why I want to say "Thank You!" But I also hope that you will continue to stand with Campaign for Liberty.
Without Liberty-minded individuals like you, Big Government lobbyists would be the ones celebrating today.
It has been a long, hard road but thanks to hard-working activists like you, we earned victory over the National Internet Sales Tax Mandate.

From The National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws:
Without a doubt, the landslide winner on Election Day was marijuana law reform. We legalized an adult's right to consume marijuana in Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, and California. We legalized patients' access in Arkansas and North Dakota, and we expanded their access in Florida and Montana. With resounding victories in red and blue states, it is clear that marijuana legalization enjoys mainstream, bipartisan support among the American people.
Over 20 percent of Americans reside in jurisdictions where the adult use of marijuana is legal. Well over half of US states now authorize the medical use of marijuana. But we must sustain these gains.
Now is the time to double down in our reform efforts. Not only do we need to ensure that our hard fought victories are upheld, but we also must push forward to expand the marijuana revolution elsewhere.
Our work is far from done and NORML plans on fighting harder than ever before to ensure that responsible marijuana consumers like you no longer face prosecution, stigmatization, or discrimination. But we need your help to ensure 2017 is our most successful year yet.
Your donation helps us mobilize the grassroots in cities and states to apply pressure to elected officials, to buy advertising to increase citizens awareness of the benefits of legalization, to provide legal support to assure that these new laws are implemented in a timely and proper manner, to host educational events across the country to defeat the reefer madness rhetoric being spread by the likes of Project SAM and Kevin Sabet, and to have a potent presence in Washington, DC to lobby Congress and the incoming administration to not upend these successful state programs and to amend federal law to comport with marijuana's rapidly changing legal and cultural status.

Thanks to NORML and other organizations nationwide that got recreational or medical marijuana legalized in their states. As the newsletter states we had a lot of problems with the prohibitionists but we overcame them and we prevailed. We prevailed over a mountain of lies and scare tactics that in the light of reason are a spit in the face in the intelligence of the American voter and the American voters saw through their lies and deceptions. The only place that failed to get recreational marijuana passed was Arizona. Perhaps next time NORML can concentrate on getting recreational marijuana legalized there as well. No one should be arrested,prosecuted and incarcerated for marijuana. No one.

Victory in the Senate

Today Campaign for Liberty members like you made history!
You see, over the last week, Campaign for Liberty members have flooded the Senate with phone calls demanding they vote for my Audit the Fed bill.
And members like you also provided Campaign for Liberty with the resources necessary to run a series of hard-hitting Internet ads targeting weak-kneed senators.
And THANKS to those efforts, earlier today, a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate, 53-44, voted in favor of Audit the Fed!
While we were unable to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to break the filibuster launched by Fed allies like Sherrod Brown (OH), Elizabeth Warren (MA), and Janet Yellen's favorite Republican, Bob Corker (TN), having a majority in the Senate is quite a victory!
And this is only the beginning. Even before the vote was completed, your Campaign for Liberty staff was preparing a two-pronged campaign to make Audit the Fed a huge issue in the upcoming elections, and forcing politicians to either pass Audit the Fed this year... Or face a sea of angry voters in the fall.
Prong one is to go back to the House, and push for a new vote there to pass Audit the Fed. Remember, the House voted overwhelmingly on September 17, 2014 to Audit the Fed, 333-92. That will set the table for another showdown in the Senate, with election day looming.
At the same time, prong two will focus on rallying Campaign for Liberty members and other Americans concerned with the banksters' abuses in the swing Senate seats up for re-election this year. As the late-Senator Everett Dirksen said, "When I feel the heat, I see the light."
So with your continued support, we guarantee to make them "feel the heat."
Your actions got us this far.
Remember, the last time the Senate considered my Audit the Fed bill in 2010, only 37 senators voted yes.
This time, we faced an all-out effort by the Fed and its cronies, including going up against the most powerful big business lobby in D.C., and a PR-blitz unlike any seen before.
It’s important to note, two Democrats who voted for it in 2010, Maria Cantwell (WA) and Ron Wyden (OR) and four who voted for it in 2012 as members of the House -- Joe Donnelly (IN), Martin Heinrich (NM), Mazie Hirono (HI), and Chris Murphy (CT) -- voted “NO” today.
Only Tammy Baldwin (WI) crossed party lines to vote “YES” despite the Democrat Leadership whipping members to vote “NO.”
Please realize that it’s BECAUSE of your efforts that ANY Democrat and 51 Republicans voted for this bill today.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I cannot even begin to thank you enough...
Even though it’s easy to be disappointed we could not ultimately break the filibuster today launched by Fed allies like Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, and Bob Corker, make no mistake, this vote marks a huge leap toward Fed transparency.
You and I are only SEVEN VOTES away from breaking the filibuster...
(Six votes if you count Senator Ted Cruz, who, despite being an original cosponsor of the bill, decided he had “more important” things to do in New Hampshire.)
I simply can’t emphasize this enough! Having a majority of the U.S. Senate vote for Audit the Fed is DUE to the dedicated efforts of Campaign for Liberty members like you who turned up the heat on the Senate.
In fact, several Senators that we expected to vote “NO” on the bill switched their votes to “YES” after hearing from Campaign for Liberty members!

Amazing news: On Thursday, the FCC voted to reduce the out-of-control cost of local, in-state and long-distance prison-phone calls — thanks in part to the actions you’ve taken.
For years, many prisoners and their families have had to pay up to $10 or more for a 15-minute phone call thanks to the predatory prices charged by companies like Securus Technologies.
The skyrocketing cost of these calls has made it difficult — sometimes impossible — for families to stay in touch with their loved ones.
Thanks to the leadership of Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, and her colleagues Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and Chairman Tom Wheeler, the FCC moved again to ensure that predatory prison phone rates don’t prevent families from remaining connected. Yesterday’s vote builds on the reforms the agency adopted during Commissioner Clyburn’s tenure as acting chairwoman in 2013.
As always, the FCC didn’t do it alone. The work of the Campaign for Prison Phone Justice, the Center for Media Justice, the Media Action Grassroots Network, civil rights groups, public interest organizations and thousands of people elevated the voices of inmates and their families in Washington, D.C. — and made it possible for the FCC to take action.
Thank you for showing, once again, that when we collectively raise our voices we can make a difference.

When C4L President John Tate and I first discussed how to respond to the IRS' demand that we turn over information on our major donors, we both believed the majority of our members would want us to fight.
But we had no idea we would receive such tremendous support!
Thanks to the support of C4L members like you, we exceeded our Battle with the IRS blitz goal of raising $110,000!
I and everyone at Campaign for Liberty are grateful and humbled by this outpouring of support, and we are more determined than ever to not give in to the IRS. It is a fight we must wage and a fight we must win.
If the IRS is not challenged, they will use this precedent to intimidate every American who supports organizations dedicated to battling the statist agenda.
Fortunately, Campaign for Liberty has several legal precedents on our side and the support of liberty-loving Americans like you.
I will keep you informed of future developments in this ongoing battle.
