"Trust us," they say.
I also know their promises of safety can be tantalizing.
But today we know President Obama's IRS routinely targeted his political opponents and grassroots conservatives.
The Justice Department targeted reporters and their families for wiretapping and harassment for daring to criticize the administration.
We see the Obama administration covering up Benghazi then tapping Susan Rice -- who helped mislead the American people in the wake of that outrage -- for a promotion.
My friend, "trust us" is out the window.
And even if our rulers were angels -- and you and I had nothing to fear from an overbearing and intrusive government -- it doesn't even work.
One of my colleagues, defending this massive program, stated the recent Boston bombing proved why we need programs like this.
Actually, it proves quite the opposite.
Instead of acting on real intelligence warnings from at least one other nation about the dangers the Tsarnaev's posed, they were too busy secretly sifting through the phone and email records of hundreds of millions of Americans.
Instead of unreasonably targeting every American into a target for spying, they should be focusing on only the truly dangerous.
What's truly dangerous is if you and I allow this to go on.
How long until these spying capabilities suffer some "mission creep" and they start using the GPS feature in your phone to track whether or not you go to gun shows?
What if you go to the "wrong" church? Or read emails from or attend the rallies of the "wrong" candidate.
What if you go to McDonalds a little "too much?"
How long until Big Brother tries to "fix" you?
My friend, that's why your action today is so critical.
As I mentioned, I've made up a Joining Statement so you can join the lawsuit, and I'm counting on you to sign it IMMEDIATELY.

Tell Congress not to bail out big labor

Could the Obama presidency -- embroiled in scandal after scandal -- be crumbling before our eyes?
Today, Congress is going back into session after a one-week recess, and I can promise you the union bosses aren’t waiting around to find out.
After spending hundreds of millions of forced-dues dollars to install and reinstall President Obama in the White House, Big Labor is DEMANDING payback NOW on their entire radical agenda (while they believe they can still get it).
And as for President Obama, you and I both know desperate men do desperate things.

I don’t know about you, but I smell a rat.
And you and I both know Big Labor didn’t unload its campaign war chest to re-elect President Obama to a second term to walk away empty handed.
But the union bosses are seeing the same news reports you and I are -- and growing more worried by the second.
That’s why the union bosses are doing everything they can to grab an IMMEDIATE and massive “return” on their “investment,” including:
*** Confirmation of Obama Labor Secretary nominee Thomas Perez, who used his power as Maryland’s Secretary of Labor to grease the skids for childcare provider unionization, hand political appointments to Big Labor bedfellows and intimidate and pressure employers on behalf of Communication Workers of America union bosses;
*** NLRB “package deal” confirmation by the U.S. Senate, so the five-member Big Labor-controlled board could instantly move to consent to the 1,600 outrageous union-label decisions made while Obama’s UNCONSTITUTIONAL “recess appointments” were controlling the board;
*** Police and Firefighter Forced Unionism, which would establish national union control over police and firefighters as a precursor to the forced unionization by federal fiat of ALL state and local public employees.
When this bill was last voted on in the U.S. House in 2007, nearly 100 House Republicans supported the legislation!
I’m afraid union bosses are banking on the same thing this year to go along with easy passage in the Senate.
Worse, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is publicly discussing the possibility of imposing the “nuclear option” -- BANNING the Senate filibuster for presidential appointments.
With a 55-45 Senate majority, that would mean virtually ANY radical nominee President Obama puts up for any position (including the Supreme Court) would be rubber-stamped by the U.S. Senate without a second thought.
Not only that, but it would set the stage for the total destruction of the Senate filibuster and passage of Big Labor’s number-one priority -- “Card Check!”
If passed, “Card Check” would strip workers of their right to a secret ballot election and FORCE hundreds of thousands of small businesses and millions of workers under union boss control.

A father's plea

Over the past five months, I have been heartened to see the memory of my son galvanizing such a powerful movement for change. I can tell you, it's what Aaron would have wanted.
It has been your efforts that have led some lawmakers to pursue an investigation of Aaron's vindictive, cruel and disproportionate prosecution. When the Justice Department appeared before the Judiciary Committee to discuss Aaron's case, Senators Patrick Leahy, John Cornyn, and Al Franken all pushed for answers. And for that they deserve thanks.

At the request of these senators, the Department of Justice recently briefed Senate Judiciary Committee staffers on their prosecution of Aaron -- but more questions remain.

The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April.
The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

In 1992, when Congress passed amendments to the Act, then-President George H.W. Bush said, "The internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry was a great injustice, and it will never be repeated."
Or will it...?
Congress has reopened this scar in our nations' past by codifying into law Presidential authority to detain Americans as long as they want.
Specifically, Section 1021 of the FY 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) allows American citizens to be detained indefinitely - without due process - until the "War on Terror" is declared over.
But, as politicians of both parties are forever reminding us, the "War on Terror" may never be over.
An amendment intended to curtail the blatantly unconstitutional indefinite detention provision was adopted to the FY 2013 NDAA in the Senate - before being stripped out by the John McCain-led Conference Committee.
Their goal was to ensure the President could secretly target American citizens and throw them in jail for years or even decades without so much as ever giving them a trial!
Next week, the full House will take up the FY 2014 NDAA, and it's up to us to make sure it repeals Section 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA.
That's why it's so urgent you sign your "Repeal Section 1021" Fax Petition to Congress right away!
This petition urges your representative to support any amendment that will prevent the indefinite detention of American citizens and to vote against any defense authorization bill that doesn't repeal this abuse of power!
Representative Thomas Massie and others have assured us they are doing what they can to bring an amendment to the floor, but if it gets there, your representative needs to know how to vote.
That's why Congress needs to hear from you immediately.
After failing to adopt amendments to repeal Sec. 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA, the government still has the authority to indefinitely detain anyone the government accuses of "supporting terrorism."

Their goal was to ensure the President could secretly target American citizens and throw them in jail for years or even decades without so much as ever giving them a trial!
Next week, the full House will take up the FY 2014 NDAA, and it's up to us to make sure it repeals Section 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA.

This petition urges your representative to support any amendment that will prevent the indefinite detention of American citizens and to vote against any defense authorization bill that doesn't repeal this abuse of power!

The triple threat in Congress
They're baaa-aaaack.
That feeling in the pit of your stomach you got this morning when you rolled out of bed wasn't just because it's Monday . . .
After a week of leaving us alone, Congress is back, and their docket is chock full of radical assaults on our liberties.
And I do mean FULL.
I'll explain more in just a moment.

First up, the U.S. Senate will begin work on their so-called "Immigration Reform" bill, which is nothing more than a statist front to RAM a massive NATIONAL ID scheme into law.
The statists' NATIONAL ID card would be required for all U.S. workers regardless of place of birth, making it illegal for anyone to hold a job in the United States who doesn't obtain the ID card.
The most dangerous part is the biometric database, which would allow federal bureaucrats to track our every move.
Once government bureaucrats know exactly how we live our lives, it won't be long until they ramp up their efforts to run them through more laws, regulations, taxes, and other restraints.
As bad as this assault is, it's FAR from the end of what the statists in both parties have up their sleeves.
In fact, Congress could soon end up ramming through two other massive power grabs:
*** GUN CONTROL.
Ever since their first attempt at gun control flamed out in the U.S. Senate, the gun-grabbers have been doing everything they can to browbeat the handful of Republican and Democrat Senators they need into supporting President Obama's anti-gun assault.
But now, you and I are learning House Republican Leadership could take up the issue even before the Senate acts.
*** NATIONAL INTERNET TAX MANDATE.
If passed, the National Internet Tax Mandate would raise taxes on all Americans as a state sales tax on all goods purchased online would be implemented.
Tax collectors in one state would now be free to pursue retailers across state lines, so if customers in New York make purchases from an online retailer in Texas, that retailer must collect New York's exorbitant sales taxes and send them to New York's tax collection agencies.
Worse, after the bill overwhelmingly passed the Senate, I'm already getting word that some in the GOP leadership will be more than happy to help this Obama-backed bill sail into law.
You and I have to mobilize NOW to stop this madness.
