I’m growing more and more concerned the white-hot fight over gun control in Congress last fall was merely side-tracked by impeachment.
And the really troubling part is it may have given the anti-gun statists a strategic advantage to renew their all-out assault on our Second Amendment freedoms in Congress ahead of the November elections.

All it will take is some madman shooting up a “gun-free” zone and those same politicians will be clamoring to cut a “deal” and grant Big Government statists BLATANTLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL powers to:
- Seize law-abiding Americans’ firearms -- with ZERO DUE PROCESS -- through so-called “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Orders; and
- Create a Nationwide Gun Registration -- aka “Universal Background Checks”. . . to hand Government Goons the names and firearms of every single gun owner in the country.
My friend, do you think it can’t happen where you live?

The FBI is spying on Ron Paul and Campaign For Liberty

You see, not long ago, Cato Institute Scholar Patrick Eddington submitted hundreds of Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA) to the FBI asking whether the bureau had ever conducted warrantless surveillance of organizations like Campaign for Liberty.
When the responses started pouring back in, the FBI effectively responded, “No, nope, nope, never, not them, nope. . .”
That is UNTIL they were asked about Campaign for Liberty.
Then the FBI issued a “Glomar” response, effectively saying, “No comment.”
These “Glomar” responses are extremely rare, used only when the FBI wants to refuse to confirm or deny whether it was collecting national security or intelligence records on the subjects of the FOIA request.
In other words, if they WEREN’T spying on me, they’d say so!
Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised. . .
To the Deep State, I’m “dangerous” because I support liberty.
That’s been the message time and again, going all the way back to 2009 when the Department of Homeland Security issued warnings about people with my presidential campaign stickers on their cars!
Then, a few years later, we were targeted by the IRS seeking personal records and information on some of our largest donors (an attack we fought and ultimately WON with your help).
Deep State mouthpieces in the media have accused me of being a Russian stooge for simply standing up for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Now, this.

Could Trump replace Jeff Sessions in a recess appointment?
President Donald Trump sounds like he’s intent on forcing out his “beleaguered” attorney general, Jeff Sessions, either by firing him or demeaning him until he quits. Firing Sessions might get rid of one of the president’s problems, but it could create a whole host of others.
Most urgently, firing Sessions could sever Trump’s relationship with Republicans in Congress – you know, the same Republicans he needs to approve his nominees (in the Senate) or pass bills he can sign into law (both the Senate and House).
“If Jeff Sessions is fired,” Sen. Lindsey O. Graham, R-S.C., told reporters, “there will be holy hell to pay.”
The Washington Post’s White House team reports that if Sessions is out soon, Trump is discussing going over indignant Republicans in the Senate and bringing on a new attorney general while the Senate is on break this August.

It could happen. But it could also backfire bigly. And since Republicans control a majority of Congress, when they’re upset at the president, there’s a lot they can do to stop him – including preventing a new attorney general from taking office.
Let me explain.
Yes, Trump has the authority for a recess appointment
There’s actually a “Recess Clause” in the Constitution (Article II Sec. 2) that reads: “The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.”
Presidents have used it for everything from relatively obscure labor boards to filling seats on the Supreme Court. In 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower used that authority to appoint William Brennan to the Supreme Court less than a month before the presidential election. A few years before that, he had appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the court when the Senate was in recess. In both cases, the Senate later confirmed those justices.
But the courts have made it more difficult
Recess appointments can backfire, legally. In 2014, the Supreme Court overturned President Barack Obama’s three recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board, arguing that the president overstepped his constitutional authority.
The Senate can make recess appointments nearly impossible.
When it overruled Obama, the Supreme Court also gave the Senate a wide latitude to decide when it considers itself to be in recess and when it’s out. Today, a recess has to last at least 10 days before the president can legally make an appointment.
The court also okayed a loophole the Senate can use to leave town but still block a president from having free rein.
The Senate can go into “pro forma” sessions, which exist almost entirely to prevent a president from making recess appointments. In a pro forma session, the Senate can gavel into Congress – with no legislative business being conducted – and claim it has been in session. “The whole thing takes 20 seconds,” said Cornell Law professor Josh Chafetz. The Senate could theoretically gavel in/gavel out the whole time it’s gone in August.
It’s up to Republicans to decide if they want to hold the line against Trump.
If our hypothetical scenario becomes reality, this is where things get really interesting. You need a majority of the Senate to decide to go into a pro forma session. Republicans have the majority. So if Republicans decide to set up pro forma session when they go out of town in August, they’d basically be sticking it to Trump, saying they don’t trust the president not to do something ill-advised like fire his attorney general after complaining about said attorney general’s recusal from an investigation into Trump’s campaign.
Trump has one other legal avenue.
If Trump is itching to fire Sessions, Congress be damned, he could simply skip an appointment for good and just name an acting attorney general under the 1998 Federal Vacancies Reform Act. The end result is the same: One official out, another one in.
But, Chafetz notes, the president could only appoint people who have already been confirmed by the Senate for another job, and that’s a historically thin list. Plus, there’s legal uncertainty on whether the president can use this tool if he fires someone.
“It says death, resignation or unable to perform the duties of the office,” Chafetz said. “And there’s an argument that ‘firing’ is left out of that deliberately….”
Checks and balances can be a bother.

Support medical marijuana at the federal level,support the CARERS Act

We can end the federal prohibition on medical cannabis this year, but we need your help.
We have so much to be excited for this year in medical cannabis, and the current political landscape is more favorable than it has ever been. But we are at a crossroads. The 2016 Presidential Election right around the corner, and many of the victories we have won in the past few years could be rolled back by a new Administration.
Our work is not done. Millions of Americans still do not have access to safe and legal medical cannabis, and with the uncertainty of 2017, we could see the return of massive federal raids and imprisonment. We are more determined than ever to bring safe and legal access to all Americans, and we now have a real solution on the table.
The Solution
The Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States (CARERS) Act is the most comprehensive piece of cannabis legislation ever introduced in Congress. The CARERS Act will end the state-federal conflict over medical cannabis law with far-reaching outcomes. When adopted, the bill will end federal interference is state medical cannabis programs, reschedule cannabis, facilitate research, create legal access for veterans, and more.
The CARERS Act is gaining momentum in the Senate. Judiciary Committee members Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Al Franken (D-MN) have signed on. However, the bill in stalled in the Committee, because Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) refuses to allow a vote on the bill.
The Plan
Despite the Senator’s position, we are not giving up hope. If the CARERS Act gets a fair vote, we are sure it will pass. ASA has developed a strategic plan to push Senator Grassley to allow a vote. Using media, grassroots action, and educational events, we can pass the CARERS Act before the election.
We held a press conference in Iowa last week to kick off our petition drive. We are going door-to-door to gather signatures urging Senator Grassley to allow a vote on the CARERS Act. ASA will deliver the signatures from Iowans later this summer.
More than fifty Congressional offices participated in a special legislative briefing hosted by ASA on the CARERS Act yesterday. Participants included Congressional leaders like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), lead CARERS Act sponsor Senator Corey Booker (D-NJ), Senator Mark Madsen (R-UT), policy experts, and patients.

The Solution
The Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States (CARERS) Act is the most comprehensive piece of cannabis legislation ever introduced in Congress. The CARERS Act will end the state-federal conflict over medical cannabis law with far-reaching outcomes. When adopted, the bill will end federal interference is state medical cannabis programs, reschedule cannabis, facilitate research, create legal access for veterans, and more.
The CARERS Act is gaining momentum in the Senate. Judiciary Committee members Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Al Franken (D-MN) have signed on. However, the bill in stalled in the Committee, because Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) refuses to allow a vote on the bill.
The Plan
Despite the Senator’s position, we are not giving up hope. If the CARERS Act gets a fair vote, we are sure it will pass. ASA has developed a strategic plan to push Senator Grassley to allow a vote. Using media, grassroots action, and educational events, we can pass the CARERS Act before the election.
We held a press conference in Iowa last week to kick off our petition drive. We are going door-to-door to gather signatures urging Senator Grassley to allow a vote on the CARERS Act. ASA will deliver the signatures from Iowans later this summer.
More than fifty Congressional offices participated in a special legislative briefing hosted by ASA on the CARERS Act yesterday. Participants included Congressional leaders like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), lead CARERS Act sponsor Senator Corey Booker (D-NJ), Senator Mark Madsen (R-UT), policy experts, and patients.

Edward Snowden is a hero
As far as I'm concerned Edward Snowden is a hero. He exposed a massive invasion of the American people's privacy by a corrupt government. This goes beyond the Whitehouse this contaminates Congress as well. We find that one of the president's biggest Republican cheerleaders,Senator Lindsay Graham-SC,defending what the NSA and in turn,what the Whitehouse did. In fact if Graham wants us to surrender who rights and privacy he can go first. Other statists are coming forward as well to condemn Snowden. The good thing is we are finding out who the statists are and when their terms are up we can kick their sorry butts out of office. They're pissed that Snowden didn't go through proper channels. What was he supposed to do? Give that information over to higherups at the NSA? Go to the Holder Justice Department? Trust statists like Graham? If he did any of those he would be Osama Bin Laden's roommate by now. The fact that he handled the way he did shows he's not stupid. Not by any means. Let's see where this goes.

John McCain attacks Rand Paul on filibuster, drones saying he needs to ‘calm down’
U.S. Sen. John McCain slammed fellow Republican Rand Paul on the Senate floor Thursday morning for his 13-hour filibuster to block John Brennan’s confirmation as CIA Director.
“Calm down, Senator,” McCain said, in an address to Paul. “The U.S. government cannot randomly target U.S. citizens.”
In his filibuster Wednesday, Paul criticized the White House over its drone policies, and for refusing to rule out military strikes against U.S. citizens on American soil.
McCain said Thursday that Paul’s warnings that the U.S. could target “Jane Fonda” or “people in cafes” bring the debate into the “realm of the ridiculous.”
“If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids,” McCain said, adding: “I don’t think what happened yesterday is helpful to the American people.”
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) echoed these criticisms, adding that he was “disappointed” in the 13 Republican Senators who supported Paul’s filibuster last night. Graham scoffed at Paul’s question about whether Obama thinks he has the authority to kill a noncombatant American citizen on U.S. soil.
“I find the question offensive,” Graham said Thursday on the Senate floor. “As much I disagree with President Obama and as much as I support past presidents, I do not believe that question deserves an answer.” Paul’s question, the South Carolina Republican said, “cheapens the debate.”
Graham later told reporters that he will vote to confirm Brennan as a result of the filibuster

I am so sick of hearing about John McCain,that senile old bastard from Arizona. He is a fucking STATIST in all caps. Wherever the forces of liberty go to defend civil liberties and freedoms McCain is there to counter us and oppose us,time and time again. He has never once stood on the side of liberty in fact he is our biggest opponent on the Republican side of the aisle. McCain's disdain for us "liberty kids" is obvious and his understanding of how the government is ran is very limited or he under estimates everybody else. If you received a watered down third rate education by a modern union teacher who couldn't care less and cannot be fired due to tenure then maybe you'll believe McCain. On the other hand if you received a quality education then you know McCain is full of shit. The government is "of the people,for the people and by the people". The people run the government. That is why McCain must run to keep his job and if he loses he goes back to Arizona to stay,which sounds great to me. If there were no elections he would just meet someone in a office to discuss performance reviews. Sounds like McCain needs to either take a course in civics or get off our Libertarian backs.
Senator Lindsey Graham has made good decisions in the past. His standing up to VAWA is admirable but he's got it wrong this time. There can be some positive changes. Unfortunately a lot of Republicans want to be liked by the liberal media and to do so they will sell out core conservative values if they think it will gain them favorable coverage. Unfortunately for them the liberal media hates them and will do anything against them. Senator Graham,if you are reading this or hear about it that dinner with Obama may have been the most expensive meal yet. I don't believe the voters of South Carolina sent you to Washington DC to clink glasses with Obama. I'm sure when they heard about it they were probably very upset. If Obama and the Democrats can accept the National Review hates their guts then the Republicans have to accept the New York Times hates their guts. If you are a Libertarian and a resident of Arizona or South Carolina let McCain and Graham know where you stand.
