Sign the Balance the Budget Amendment

From The National League Of Taxpayers:

What kind of future will you have?

What kind of future will your kids, your grandkids, your nieces, and your nephews have?

These are serious questions facing not only you but all of us in Congress.

You see, as I write you today:

*** The deficit this year is projected at $642 billion with more than $6 trillion added to our debt since 2008;

*** Social Security has already begun to run in the red;

*** The real unemployment rate today is more than 14 percent with millions more workers relegated to part-time work;

*** Medicare is ultimately destined to totally run out of money while private insurance rates are skyrocketing.
The fact is, the $16 trillion national debt we hear so much about is just the tip of the iceberg.

When the government's unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Social Security, and federal employees' retirement benefits are counted, American taxpayers are really on the hook for over $86.8 trillion.

The fact is, President Obama and my big spending colleagues in Washington, D.C. have been piling on to our national debt every day, and show no signs of slowing down.

They've been spending money we don't have for so long, some economists are beginning to question not if the U.S. will ultimately have to declare bankruptcy, but when.

If we don't reverse course soon, the consequences will be disastrous.

That's why it's so important you help build a tidal wave of popular support for a long-term solution by supporting a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget while limiting the growth of taxes and spending.

And why, to deal with our immediate debt crisis, I hope you'll sign the special "Just Say No" Petition below to reject the next debt ceiling increase scheduled to come up in just 9 weeks.

With your help, the National League of Taxpayers plans to generate a tidal wave of petitions to my colleagues.

Of course, just as they falsely claimed about the so-called "sequestration of funds" earlier this year, President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi will say a vote to stop a debt ceiling hike will be an economic Armageddon.

But the fact is, the federal government can still spend $6.7 billion per day without raising the debt ceiling one penny.

Of course, the "solution" to our ongoing fiscal disaster put forward by President Obama and his tax-and-spend allies is to tax ourselves out of the hole.

The fact is, we can immediately achieve hundreds of billions in savings by:

*** Abolishing the boondoggle Departments of Education, Energy, Commerce, and Housing and Urban Development;

*** Repealing the monstrously expensive ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank financial regulation law;

*** Transitioning Medicaid and food stamps back to the states where they belong and cutting back on the $37 billion spent on foreign aid.

Today, the feds run 79 different welfare programs, 160 programs for housing assistance, 47 for job training, 82 for teacher quality, 80 for transportation assistance, and 56 for financial education.

In return for all that, we still have an official poverty rate of 15 percent.

Yet Barack Obama and his liberal pals keep binging.

Now, with votes on the debt ceiling coming up in a matter of weeks, it's vital that in addition to signing up to show your support for a tough Balanced Budget Amendment, you also sign your "Just Say No" Petition to your Congressman and Senators.

The only way to force them to confront the debt head-on is by making sure they know the American people won't stand for inaction.

That's why it's vital that you click here to sign your "Just Say No" Debt Ceiling Petition to your Senators and Congressman.

And for a long-term solution, also return your Declaration of Support for Senate Joint Resolution 7 and House Joint Resolution 5, a tough Balanced Budget Amendment I have cosponsored along with 44 of my Senate colleagues.

This Amendment would not only require a balanced budget but would require a two-thirds vote by both houses of Congress to raise taxes, and a three-fifths vote to raise the debt ceiling.

As President Reagan so forcefully said, "no nation on earth has taxed itself into prosperity."

That's why I hope you will sign both your "Just Say No" Debt Ceiling Petition and your Balanced Budget Declaration of Support at once.

And why, in addition to that, it's vital that you help my friends at the National League of Taxpayers with a special contribution.

The fact is, even though many Americans who receive this e-mail will sign the petition, many won't be able to contribute.

That's why it's vital you give $10, $25, $50, $100, or even more if you can.

Your special gift of $35 or even $100 or $500 will ultimately save taxpayers literally billions of dollars in the years to come.

You should also know that a generous supporter has agreed to match your contribution, dollar-for-dollar, so there isn't a better time to give.

Your donations will help the National League of Taxpayers organize:

*** Extensive internet, direct mail, and telephone campaigns to generate at least one million petitions and questionnaires to Congress like the ones that accompany my letter;

*** Extensive personal lobbying of key Members of Congress by rank and file National League of Taxpayers members and staff;

*** Hard-hitting TV, radio, and newspaper ads to be run in targeted states and districts, mobilizing the American people and detailing the dangers of our soaring debt.

Your donation will help the National League of Taxpayers reach up to 10 million Americans and generate a tidal wave of opposition to raising the debt ceiling while building long-term support for a Balanced Budget Amendment.

So after clicking here to complete your Balanced Budget Amendment Declaration and sign your "Just Say No" Debt Ceiling Petition, please help with a contribution of at least $25 or $35.

Some people have already given as much as $500.

Others have sent $50 or $100, but no matter how much you give, whether it's chipping in with $10 or a larger contribution of $150, I guarantee your contribution is urgently needed and will be deeply appreciated.

And don't forget that a generous supporter has agreed to match your contribution, dollar-for-dollar, no matter the amount.

The national debt is such an out-of-control behemoth that if we again raise the debt ceiling, it will threaten to put America on a path of permanent decline.

With your help, we can stem the tide of Big Government and stop Barack Obama and his liberal pals from spending us into oblivion.

Sincerely,

Steve Stockman
United States Congressman

P.S. Federal entitlement costs are out-of-control while our national debt is skyrocketing.

So please fill out your Balanced Budget Amendment Declaration of Support and sign your "Just Say No" Debt Ceiling Petition which the National League of Taxpayers has prepared for your Congressman and Senators.

And also, to serve a mandate on my colleagues, take advantage of the special matching grant and send a generous contribution of $100, $75, $50, or $35 at once.

Remember, a generous supporter has agreed to match your contribution, dollar-for-dollar, so there isn't a better time to give.

With the next debt ceiling fight coming up in January, it's vital the Congress face a tidal wave of petitions when they get back, so please click here.
