Gay rights activist beats himself up

Calum McSwiggan

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department

LGBT advocate and YouTube personality Calum McSwiggan claims that he is a victim of a homophobic hate crime, allegedly being targeted and severely beaten by three men as he was leaving a gay club in Hollywood.

Yeah, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD) says he's lying, like a lot.

The police report actually reveals that McSwiggan himself was arrested and taken into custody for vandalizing a car. The officers then watched the "victim" beat himself while in the jail cell, alone.

Those homophobes that beat him up only existed in his victimized mind.

McSwiggan posted a desperate message to Instagram on Monday describing the fantasized hate crime, claiming that he has "never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye."

"Last night was the worst night of my life and I'm really struggling to find the words to talk about it," he wrote. "After one of the most wonderful weekends at VidCon we went out to a gay club to celebrate, and towards the end of the evening I was separated from my friends and beaten up by three guys... With three broken teeth and six stitches in my forehead, I've never felt so terrified to be a gay man in the public eye."

The hoaxer claims that the law enforcement is also to blame. They supposedly treated McSwiggan as a "second class citizen."

"The authorities should have been there to help and protect me but instead they treated me like a second class citizen," he added to the dramatic post.

According to the LACSD, however, McSwiggan's story is not only full of holes, but a complete lie.

When deputies arrived on scene after McSwiggan claimed to have been assaulted, they found him with no injuries. Instead, the young man was seen vandalizing a car, was arrested and taken into custody.

In a jail cell, alone, McSwiggan began beating himself up with a receiver of a pay-phone inside the cell, according to officers. It was then that the hoaxer was taken to the hospital, where he snapped his selfies and begged the world for sympathy.

"The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has an affirmative duty to fully investigate all assaults and reports of violence in our community," says the statement released by the LACSD. "Deputies from West Hollywood Station responded to and investigated the report by Calum McSwiggan that he was assaulted by three males after leaving a local nightclub early Monday morning. Responding deputies were unable to substantiate the assault. Mr. McSwiggan, who had no visible injuries, was subsequently arrested after deputies observed him vandalizing a car in the 8900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

"After being booked and photographed, Mr. McSwiggan was placed into a cell by himself at West Hollywood Station," the statement continues."Mr. McSwiggan was then observed injuring himself with the handle and receiver to a payphone inside the cell. Medical personnel were summoned and Mr. McSwiggan was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. McSwiggan’s booking photo was taken prior to deputies seeing Mr. McSwiggan injuring himself."

This looks like another classic case of a hate crime hoax. As the Daily Wire reported last month, a gay pastor claimed to be a victim of a homophobic hate crime when Whole Foods allegedly wrote "Love Wins, Fag" on his cake instead of the requested "Love Wins." Yeah, that was also confirmed to be a hoax, as well: The pastor later admitted that whole thing was a lie, he added the word "Fag" to the cake.
