News from The National Right To Work Committee

From The National Right to Work Committee:

I have bad news, and a silver lining.

Despite the pressure from concerned citizens like you, Harry Reid blocked a vote on the National Right to Work Act.

You see, as Majority Leader, Reid has set a pattern of abusing the rules to block out amendments he doesn't like.

In the end, he and Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did negotiate on some Republican-backed amendments to the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), but Right to Work was not one of them.

Our bill sponsor, Senator Rand Paul, led the charge for the Right to Work Act amendment, and it was hoped that he could persuade McConnell to make Right to Work a condition of even voting on ENDA.

And in this case, five Republicans partially undercut our negotiating position by announcing their intention to vote for cloture (ending debate) on the ENDA bill.

The five were Susan Collins, Dean Heller, Mark Kirk, Orrin Hatch, and Lisa Murkowski.

With these five strategically challenged Republicans to add to his 55 Democrats, Reid had all the votes he needed to cut off debate.

But my sources report that you've demonstrated to the whole Senate that Right to Work enjoys overwhelming public support.

And we all know Right to Work is good policy.

That's why Senator Paul isn't giving up, and is already looking for the next opportunity to get a vote.

And if you will continue to stand with us, I am certain the opportunity will come to force Harry Reid to let the Senate vote on our Right to Work bill -- step one in our program to free American workers from forced unionism.

Thanks again for all you do.

Sincerely,

Mark Mix
